This page is for parents who have questions or simply need
certain information. The following is general information concerning first grade at
Crowley County Elementary.
- Schedule of Major Assignments
- Math-homework every night
- Lesson B
- Study facts for exit exam
- Test every 10th lesson (assessments are both written and oral)
- Reading-integrated language arts and phonics
- Reading log sent home every night to sign. Return daily even if
your child did not have time to read. Write a message telling why.
- Projects-occasional at-home projects are for parents and child to
complete together.
- Sight words to be practiced daily. (See sight word lists)
- Spelling
- Preview and write words every Tuesday to take home.
- Test every Friday.
- Spelling exit test of 75 words (See Spelling list)
- We expect Core Words to be spelled correctly in all writing.
- Miscellaneous Information
- Library books-checked out every tuesday and returned the following
Tuesday
- Book orders-cash or check made out to book company
- Accelerated Reader
- AR library books have a maple leaf on the spine
- First grade goals-monthly visits to AR store to spend points
- Ocean Journey Trip Requirements-Maintain 85% on individual reading
level and earn 50 points
- Book It--reading log signed nine times each month gets coupon for
free personal pizza from Pizza Hut
- Student of the Week--TEAM player
- Attendance
- Important part of children's success in school
- Four absences in a short period--parent will be contacted
- Ten absences in a semester--parent will receive a certified
letter.
- Communication
- Report cards every nine weeks
- Parent/teacher conferences: November 1 and January 17
- Concerns: I will call or write
- Parent concerns: Please call school or write a note.
- Show and Tell
- Students will be assigned a day
- Parent can bring perishables, animals, or fragile items at 3:45.
Please let me know to expect you.
- Birthday Parties
- One party per month
- Date will be chosen in advance by the teacher
- Every child who has a birthday in that month will celebrate on
that day--bring goodies, etc.
- August birthdays will celebrate in September
- June and July will celebrate in May
- Christmas Gift Exchange
- To go along with our TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) theme
this year, we will do a community share project instead of the usual student gift
exchange.
