The maid thinks things over in her head. Okay she’s a simple minted girl but this really makes no sense at all. Magicians, talking wolves and the twins with special powers? Maybe Sir Gavin was right all along when he said his wife needed to be disciplined. Maybe she was crazy believing her children were special. If that was so then why shouldn’t she bring the children back to her father? She grins, if she brought the children back surely Sir Gavin would give her some compensation for her good deed. She smiles and walks on to keep up with the wolf and the two children riding on his back.

"Ro’, something is wrong with Mae." Orion looks at his sleepy sister in front of him and looks confused. She looks at him with her big green eyes and nods. "Tell me about it then."

He bends over until there heads touch, both close their eyes and relax. "She can’t hear us here, can’t she Ro’? It’s like the dream I had about father and what he did to mother." Orion’s mental voice sounds scared. Then the relaxing voice of his sister calms him down. "I noticed something is wrong with her. Remember how she looked when father ordered Mustava to kill my pet? That’s the expression on her face I saw a few minutes ago." Orion mumbles and answers. " I don’t trust Mae anymore Ro’. I saw her think. It is so confusing, but I know she was thinking about taking us back to father. I don’t want to go back Ro’." Rowena goes silent as if the little girl is thinking. Then she answers. "We have to reach Mystic Orion, no matter what. I can tell it was important to mother that we did, so we can’t allow Mae to stand in our way." Her voice sounds scared but resolute. "I can do something to her Ro’ but only if you think it’s the right way." Orion calmly waits for his sisters answer. "What did you have in mind then Orion? I’m scared!" Orion laughs to her with his mental voice. "Don’t worry sis’. It’s just like the time I did something to the shark who scared you."

Rowena still sounds scared. "But this isn’t a stupid shark Orion, this is a human like us. What if you kill her?" She shakes her head wildly in fear. "Keep your head still Ro’, otherwise I can’t hear you and your mental powers aren’t that good remember? You said it yourself, we can’t allow Mae to stop us right?" Rowena speaks with a soft voice. "Right."

Then Orion sits up and breaks the mental link between them. He whispers to his sister. "Keep Akar busy so he won’t notice anything Ro’." Rowena nods and starts to talk to the big white wolf with her clear voice. The wolf laughs and doesn’t notice how the boy jumps of his back.

"Mae? Can you carry me in your arms? I don’t like riding on Akar’s back anymore." He pouts and looks at the maid with innocent eyes. Mae mumbles and picks him up. The small hands of the boy grab her head and pulls her closer. He whispers in her ear. " I can’t allow you to take us back to father Mae, I’m sorry." Mae’s eyes fly open in amazement and she smiles. " And what are you going to do about that Orion?" Her voice drips with sarcasm. Orion smiles back, his eyes cold and dark. He stares at her and penetrates her head. Her eyes can’t seem to let go of his as he fills her head with his thoughts. "Can’t you see them Mae? They are all around us. Mae I am so scared, I don’t want to die. Please get those spiders of me Mae. Mae? MAE? There must be thousands of them, get them of me Mae. Look at them Mae, can’t you see they can kill us with one bite?" Orion sends flares of thoughts to the maid, making her see things that aren’t there. Fear takes over her mind and body. Orion remembers how scared Mae was for the little spider in his room. He fills her head with more images of large black spiders and then he let’s go of her head. She staggers on her legs, her eyes filled with fear. The large trees around her seem alive. Black creatures with long legs crawl over the fresh green leaves. They are coming closer and closer. Some reach the dusty road they are walking on and cross it without delay. They seem so hungry. Mae screams and lets go of Orion, who runs to Akar immediately after he is free.

Akar turns his head to see why the maid is screaming. Her eyes look around her wildly, from the beautiful trees to the soft flowers on the ground. Then she starts to screams louder, more hysterical. It’s like she tries to get something of her body.
