Beginnings of a Mermaid Doll

This beautiful doll, Lydia the Mermaid, was made by Shelly Norrick. Shelly is a great doll artist; she does fairies and other mythical beings too. See all her work by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page. The porcelain upper body and clay tail are sculpted separately. Here's the upper body.

Porcelain Upper Body

Here we see the painting of the upper body completed. Her eyes are not done yet, but notice the blush on her face and the sensual smile on her lips. Her head is resting on the shell she'll eventually sit on when she is all done.

Porcelain Body & Sculpted Tail
|
The body and tail come together finally. Her tail is done in shimmering gold with silver accents. She wears thousand of golden microbeads as a bra cover for modesty. (Well what did you expect? She was one of my first mermaids and anyway my newer mermaids come au naturel! :)) She is almost done - Shelly even gave her neck and wrist adornments out of gold and silver; only her hair is missing. It just occured to me that this mermaid kinda looks like Bai Ling the Chinese actress now that she has her bald look for her acting roles in first "The King and I" and now "The Wild Wild West".
