Like a girlie-poo
Madness with tanned bellies, Gwen Stefani and her Cali crew
of ska-lovers hooted while alt-rock's grunge clones grumped
through their 120 minutes of fame. Though the boys in the
band are energetic joes, Stefani is the show--a
dorky mall dolly who hugged the spotlight like a stuffed
animal and spoke for all the just-a-girls too intimidated by
Courtney and P.J. "Don't Speak" was a majestic
cheeseball Madonna ballad (call it "Theme from
Vision Quest 2") that proved their pop smarts, no
doubt.
