Q: Dear Sums-Sums-
I've tried two well known methods to house train my new puppy...so far nothing has worked. I've tried the following methods: Crate Training &
Treat Training. I need some new suggestions. Thanks!

A:Dear Abby-
What a woof problem! HeHe, pardon the dog humor. I suggest the methods below as well a lot of time & patience. Little puppies are a handful (I know! I was one!), but
unless there is a physical problem with your new buddle of joy then consistency is the best answer. Pick one method & stick with it. Now here are two of my favorite
methods (I won't tell you which one worked on me;-)
Number 1- When your puppy goes to the bathroom, in the house or out, say the word Treat & give him the treat. Continue this for about a week then only say the word when he goes outside & reward him the same way. Also, add a lot of praise
when he goes outside. He will get the idea that he only gets that treat when he's out. Ahem...it was my fave.
Number 2- When your puppy uses the bathroom ring a bell. As above, do it about a week. Then only ring when he goes potty outside. A treat reward along with the bell will tell him it is a good thing to be going outdoors. When he's trained, you can
tie the bell to the doorknob & he will hit it when he needs to potty.
If these fail then I suggest a check up with your vet. Good luck!!
