| The Daisy The
Daisy has a special importance for us danes. It is an early spring flower and we call it a
'Marguerite'.
Because of that it became
associated with our present queen, Queen Margrethe II.
She was born in 1940, the first
year of the german occupation of our country, and she therefore became a symbol of
everything danish, and a special 'Marguerite' broche was created, a daisy in gold and
enamel
Wearing this broche became a
common sign of protest against the germans, showing that we were danish and opposed to
what they represented.
Our queens nickname is 'Daisy' for
the same reason |
