Street Fighter 2

The White Angel: part 7
About a week later, after they had given the computer details
to investigations, the two ladies were chauffeured from the
apartment back to the Interpol headquarters for the Joint
Investigative Alliance agreement with the USAF.
Sitting in the car that was taking her, Cammy felt unclean.
It had nothing to do with her physical state, though she could
have used a long rest and a bath. She had settled, instead, for a
quick shower after she woke up early that morning.
The feeling she had was the result of the fact that she herself
was one of the very agents of the syndicate that the JIA
agreement was created to destroy. Though she hadn't been able to
control herself, she was still responsible for bloodshed. She was
determined to control herself and take an active part in the
battle for the right side.
She hoped that she conveyed the feeling that she was violated by
the members of Shadowloo.
Captain Guile was ready promptly at nine a.m.. He personally came
out to welcome Chun Li and Cammy as they walked up the stairs to
the building.
"It's good to see you again, Detective." he said.
"Likewise, Captain Guile, though I wish the circumstances
were different."
The air force captain's green eyes shifted to Cammy White.
"You must be Miss Cammy White," he said extending a
hand. "I'm Captain William S. Guile of the United States Air
Force. It's an honour to meet you ma'am."
Cammy shook his hand readily, thinking that she was going to like
this man.
Captain Charlie Nash waited with the Interpol commander in the
conference room, twisting a pen around his finger. He had been
rescued from a Shadowloo concentration camp by Guile only a few
months ago, so it was natural for him to feel tense. He was told
he would meet a former Shadowloo assassin in there, but wasn't
sure whether he could handle it. The torture he received from
Shadowloo's soldiers was too much to bear.
Finally, the three of them entered the room, and Charlie stood up.
"Miss Li? I'm Captain Charlie Nash, but just call me Charlie.
How do you do?"
Chun Li had never met Charlie before, but she had been told by
Guile what he was like. She shook his hand and sat down to
business alongside Cammy.
Charlie looked at Cammy. She seemed to be an ordinary young girl
at first glance, until he saw her scar. It served as a reminder
to the life she had previously had, working for Shadowloo as one
of their killers. It reminded him of his own scars.
Cammy knew that Charlie was looking at her with contempt, but
ignored it for now.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, shall we sit down?" asked the
commander of Interpol.
The five people sat down around the table. Guile pulled out a set
of files and handed them over to Chun Li.
"From the coordinates you gave us, we took some satellite
photos over the area. This is what we came up with."
Chun Li opened the file and looked at the photos inside. Cammy
leaned over to look at them and instantly recognized what she saw
from her dreams. The photographs, backed-up by Guile's comments,
displayed views of a fortress built inside a giant cliff, which
was only visible as a bunker that protruded from the bottom.
However, several hanger doors were showed opening up at various
times, displaying helicopters with Shadowloo markings. There was
no doubt about it. From the photos, and from what Cammy could
remember of her past life, this was the base where Bison 'trained'
his assassins.
"We believe that an aerial offensive can obliterate the base,
along with any Shadowloo operatives inside.
"We can stop this with one airstrike."
"But what about the assassins?" Cammy asked.
"Well, little girl," Charlie replied with a smile,
"They'll probably be killed in the strike. At least
.."
"At least what?! They'll rest knowing that they died without
their own will?" Cammy was angry now. She was going to be
the only one to have had a chance of recovery. The other
brainwashed assassins wouldn't.
In her mind, that wasn't fair.
Fortunately, Chun Li backed her up on this decision. "Colonels,
I believe that even if you airstrike this base, Shadowloo's still
going to pick you up on sensors. Now even though Bison doesn't
care how many of his men die, as long as he wins, the assassins
are too big a weapon to just willingly sacrifice. They'll escape
no matter what you do."
"You got any other plans?" said Charlie with a hint of
skepticism.
"Someone needs to infiltrate that base and recover all the
test subjects and brainwashed assassins, getting them out as far
away as possible before the bombs are dropped. At least then we
will have given at least a proper chance of a normal life to
those people."
"How? They'll be brainwashed, what can you do?" asked
Charlie sarcastically.
"Excuse me, who do you think you are sitting in front of
right now?"
Charlie looked at Cammy and realised the detective was right.
Cammy was once one of them, but now she wasn't. However, he still
didn't know whose side she was actually on.
Chun Li sensed this and continued, "Colonel Nash, I
understand how you feel against Shadowloo. Believe me, I know.
You were subject under their torture for three years. But this
little girl had been subject to it since she was eight years old!
Now look at her. She has more reason than just about any of us to
hate Shadowloo. Just give her a chance."
Charlie smiled. He was starting to understand the Detective. Hell,
he was even beginning to like her. And though he still had
misgivings about Cammy's past, he was starting to respect the
little English lady.
"I apologize Detective. I spent about two months in the
infirmary, with a mental evaluation to see whether I could still
fight. I guess I still need some time."
"Alright," said Guile as he took the file back from
Chun Li. "I'll report to General McGruder straight away and
tell him about your recommendations. In the meantime, I'd say we're
now officially allied against Shadowloo."
"Wait." The Interpol commander interrupted Guile before
he could leave. "Who would be behind the infiltration
operation if it goes ahead?"
"My best guess would be that the US will be sending a SEALS
team, sir."
"I would like to go with them if that is at all possible."
Chun Li suddenly requested.
"Miss Li, I know that this is a joint investigative alliance
between Interpol and the United States Air Force, but I'm not
sure that you would be suitable for this assignment." the
Interpol Commander stated.
"With all due respect, General, I disagree," said Guile,
unexpectedly supporting Chun Li's decision. "Chun Li is one
of Interpol's best operatives against Shadowloo. She knows a hell
of a lot more about them than we do. I think it would be best if
she came along as our specialist."
"What about me?"
They all turned to face Cammy. Chun Li knew that Cammy wanted to
come, to join the fight against Bison, but she was still unsure
about whether it was safe for her to do so.
"Cammy, I don't think you should."
Cammy's heart sank when Chun Li said those words, but she didn't
raise her voice. "Why not?" she said quietly, a look of
rejection in her face.
"Listen, Cammy. I'm not sure you're fully recovered from
your nightmare yet. I mean, what would happen if you were
captured. They'd experiment on you again, and then brainwash you
back into the person you were before. I would never be able to
forgive myself if that happened."
Although she felt rejected for not being able to go with her,
Cammy realized what Chun Li meant. She had put so much hard work
into taking care of Cammy, all that work would be for nothing if
she ended up becoming a member of Shadowloo again. She nodded her
head silently in understanding.
"Don't worry, Cammy. I'll make sure another Interpol agent
takes care of you while I'm gone. I'll come back. I promise."
"Well," Guile interrupted, "If we've finished, I'll
recommend the incursion to the pentagon. I'm sure we'll get green
light."
As they walked out of the briefing room, the Interpol commander
stopped Chun Li before she left. "Chun Li!"
She turned her head.
"Good luck."
"Thank you sir."
Two days later, the green light was given, and the attack on
Bison's brainwashing facility was given the go-ahead. Chun Li was
at the runway, where the Chinook that was carrying the Navy SEALS
to the facility was waiting. She said her good-byes to Cammy
before she left.
"Don't worry about a thing, Cammy. I'll be back, and I'll
save a lot more of your kind as well."
Cammy hugged Chun Li. In a way, she was relieved that Chun Li was
doing this, helping people that were what she once was, but she
was afraid that her only friend in this world was going to get
herself killed in this operation. She wished that she was with
her, fighting alongside her. She knew how to fight after all. But
Chun Li was right. If she went, there was a good chance she would
get captured, and then Bison would just force her back into an
assassin again.
As Chun Li ran towards the Chinook, Cammy climbed into the car
that was to take her back to Chun Li's apartment. She watched as
the twin-bladed transport chopper rose into the air and
disappeared into the horizon.
The man chauffeuring Cammy drove through the streets of Hong Kong
towards Chun Li's apartment, making no words. Cammy sat, looking
out of the window, praying that her only friend would be alright.
Suddenly, she noticed that the street that she was going down was
unfamiliar to her. They had taken a wrong turn. Then, suddenly,
they stopped altogether.
"Hey. What's going on? This isn't Ch
."
She stopped talking when she saw the smile on the driver's face.
Her eyes widened in fear when she saw the dart gun in the mans
hand. He fired, and the tranquiliser dart penetrated Cammy's side.
Within seconds, Cammy slumped sideways onto the chair,
unconscious.
The man spoke into a walkie-talkie. "I have her."
"Good. Take her to the facility in Malaysia. She'll be a
nice little surprise to the Detective."
Cammy lay asleep in the chair as the man drove off, delivering
his precious prize towards where the SEALS were headed.
