Description

Allistra always (at least in daylight or when there are people around) wears a long black hooded robe (see magical equipment below) with wide sleeves; in the presence of strangers, the hood is kept up, which conceals most of her factions and obscures the rest. Besides the robe, she wears unobstructive pants and leather gloves, a blackened chain mail, and a belt from where the hilt of her long sword hangs. Her sword's pommel is shaped like a spider and the guard and hilt are filled with beautiful and yet sinister black drow carvings.

Her hair is at shoulder-length and is pure white, her eyes a faint red. If ever seen without the hood, a slim and beautiful body is revealed, crowned by a face with fine factions and full lips; if not for the fact that she is a Drow, all kinds of men would be attracted to her on sight.

Although it is doubtful that anyone would ever get to see them, Allistra has tattoos shaped like black spiders on both her shoulders.

Kit benefits

Her intense training in the world of the dark elves has given her tremendous ability with blades, specifically with long swords (her weapon of choice), this ability is reflected in her stats above.

You should read the full description of the Death Weaver kit to learn about Allistra's fighting capabilities and bonuses, this description can be found here

Magical equipment

Allistra always keeps her equipment to a minimum, nothing more than a few vital items like food, water, block and tackle, etc. This mundane equipment she keeps in her mount, the part that she carries with her is the magical items and little more. The magic items she possesses are:

History

Allistra was born 207 hundred years ago in a drow complex far below the earth, the daughter of prominent warriors (or in other words, she was bred to be a warrior). She began her training as a warrior early on, and her instructors noticed something in her, she was different; she learned quickly and her ability with blades was impressive, but she lacked bloodthirst, she didn't seem to have the killer instinct that drow hold so dearly. Seeing great potential in the young warrior, her instructor (an elven female warrior named Thal'iss) decided to hide this from other drow and set out to turn Allistra into a cold and deadly drow warrior herself.

Thal'iss dedicated a large of her amount of her time in training Allistra, drow training is hard enough as it is, but the lessons Thal'iss put the young warrior through were truly beyond cruelty. Allistra knew nothing but pain, fatigue and humiliation during the years that the overzealous instructor watched over her, and in the end, she had become a perfect member of her race, a remorseless and emotionless warrior in the service of Lloth.

The young warrior showed a bloodthirst that impressed even her battle-hardened peers, and her uncanny fighting abilities and lack of morals allowed her to advance in rank and station quickly, soon becoming one of her matron's favourite Death Weavers. He made her way to the top mostly through assassination and cunning, and she even got to pay Thal'iss back for her troubles by murdering her in a most gruesome and painful way forty seven years ago.

By the time she turned 189, Allistra was an elite assassin and one of her matron's best warriors, and was now of age and rank to produce an offspring to be trained as a warrior, and so was paired with a powerful warrior. Allistra became pregnant and had to leave her duties for a while until her child was born. Much to the father and matron's dismay, the child was born with slight deformities on his/her (actually Allistra never knew whether the baby was a boy or a girl) feet, out of disappointment, the father killed the child minutes after the birth. On that day, Allistra remembered two emotions that had been buried since her early childhood, one was joy from seeing the new-born, and the other was despair from watching her child die.

The next few years were horrible for her, not only did she had to cope with her hidden and profound grief, but also she had to win back her status quo, you see, the other drow saw the "flawed" child as her failure, and many treated her like an outcast.

One day, her matron came across a most peculiar magic item, one that allowed a drow to walk the surface without suffering any decrease in his abilities. The matron decided it was to be used by a drow warrior to go to the surface world and kill a warrior that had come across the drow city a while back and managed to murder several high ranking members of the house. The criminals were six in total, but only this warrior had escaped alive. Other assassins had been sent to find him, but none of them had succeeded, they needed someone who could endure the world of light and find him.

Always trying to win her matron's favor back, Allistra volunteered to test the robe and find the warrior, and her matron agreed. This was done mainly because ever since the incident, Allistra was more disposable than usual, and considering that the robe's magic was unstable, it was fruitless to risk the life of a better warrior in such an enterprise. And besides, if the robe did work, Allistra was more than able to kill the impudent warrior; in other word, if the robe worked, the objective would be achieved, if it didn't, there would be no great loss.

The robe did work, and Allistra spent eight months locating the victim. As it turns out, the man had retired and settled down in a quiet town far away from the surroundings of the drow complex. Allistra watched her prey closely, he was a lot older, and now had a wife and two children, she knew what to do, what the matron would have wanted; kill all of them, but the kill the old warrior last.

On a cold moonless night, she waited until her victim left, and entered the house. She took the two children first and tied them up, the mother woke up and tried to fight her, so Allistra sliced her throat and waited for the warrior to arrive. When he did, it didn't take much to subdue him and tie him up. She seated her victim in front of his children and his wife's corpse, he tried to scream, but to no avail, she lowered the hood in front of him, just to let him know why this was happening. "Now watch" she whispered to his ear in the common tongue, she unsheathed her sword and grabbed one of the children, holding the blade to her little neck, and then... nothing. For the first time since her childhood, she couldn't do it; her hands were shaking, her breathing thickened, she kept thinking about her murdered baby, she held her breath and tried again, but she couldn't do it.

In a fit of anger and fear, she threw the child away and turned to the father, striking him with a powerful blow that nearly split the old warrior in two. She ran away as fast as she could, tears streaming down her eyes. She didn't know nor care how far or for how long she ran. Ripping her house's insignia, she vowed that day that she wouldn't return to the underground tunnels of the drow, they would kill her anyway if they found out.

She knew humans would fear her, try to harm her, she travelled for quite a while before finding a dense forest, only one old road went through it, she decided to stay there, perhaps there she could find peace. Allistra took residence in a cave, ate roots, fruits and the occasional animal she could hunt. All along, many times she felt like she was not alone, that someone watched her, but when she turned around, there was nobody there. Her imagination gave many identities to this unseen intruder: a drow assassin, another elf trying to kill her, friends of the warrior she had killed and many others.

A few more months passed until the stalker chose to appear before her, it was no killer but the forest's druid, an old man puzzled by the dark elf's presence. At first, she was hostile and defiant, but as time passed, and thanks to the old man's persistence, they began to talk to each other.

Allistra was impressed with the druid; he didn't seem to care about her being a drow, he wasn't a judgmental person, he was very different from all other humans she had met. In time, the druid and the dark elf learned to live with one another, and Allistra opened up her past and feeling to him. Years passed, and the drow learned many things from the druid, she learned about nature, hunting, plants, animals, and about the ways of humankind.

She had finally found a peaceful place, but she found herself sneaking out to practice swordplay more often than she felt comfortable with. "You are a warrior" the druid assured, "it is your way and destiny, and hiding from it won't help". Allistra knew he was right, she was a warrior, had been one for two centuries, she could not just hang her sword and pretend to be someone else. For the moment, she was happy living in the forest, but she knew that she would have to move on eventually.

Years later, the aging druid fell ill, and the drow woman stayed by his side the whole time. The druid asked her to leave him many times, urging her to find her own destiny outside the forest, insisting that somebody was already on the way to take care of him.

A week later, a man approached the druid's hut, he was armed and didn't seem too friendly, so Allistra waited atop a tree and ambushed the man. He and Allistra traded blows for a minute or two, each one demanding the other to retreat. The druid's voice called from inside the hut in a strange language and the man answered in the same tongue. The druid called Allistra off, assuring her it was all right.

As it turns out, the man was an old friend and pupil of the druid, a ranger named Tiberius. A few days later, the druid talked with Tiberius while the drow was out gathering herbs, and asked him to guide and help the elf through the world of man. Four days later, the druid died.

For the second time in her life, Allistra felt sadness for the death of another being, but even worse than that was the feeling of uncertainty that came over her, he knew that she had no place in the forest without the old man. Tiberius told her that he was leaving at dawn to meet up with two friends in the next town, and that she was welcome to come if she so pleased.

The next day, both of them left the forest and caught up with Tiberius' party. Several months have passed, and Allistra has grown accustomed to the company of Tiberius and the others and the life they lead, though she still fears the day her kindred come looking for her.

Roleplaying Allistra

Allistra is really, really hard to deal with; she keeps to herself and hardly speaks unless asked directly (and politely). When she does talk she is blunt, harsh, and not particularly nice, she has a cynical or negative remark for every occasion, which usually leads to many conflicts with other members of the party.

She is a highly skilled and dedicated warrior, and doesn't let a day go by without practising swordplay. By the same ticket, she thinks badly of warriors who lack this dedication, and usually puts them down the moment she gets the chance (Tiberius is already used to this and doesn't care about her cynical remarks regarding his skills).

It is highly unlikely that Allistra will even greet new comers or strangers, the most this people get is a grunt to acknowledge their presence. An exception to this annoying behaviour is children; Allistra opens up a little bit more when it comes to younger people (In my campaign I have a psionic character that is 13 years old, and to the surprise of everyone else, he gets along with Allistra just fine).

Deep down, Allistra cares about her companions (long time companions, that is). She may not like to show it, but when things get difficult, the dark elf is surprisingly supporting, willing to die for her companions if need be. She might also be willing to comfort and advice close friends, but she doesn't consider herself good at it, so she wouldn't resort to that unless absolutely necessary.

Now, Allistra lived among drow for hundreds of years, and even though she speaks perfect common, she slips a drow word or phrase occasionally while talking, or when she doesn't want others to know what she is saying. Here are a few words and phrases in drow tongue that I've used while roleplaying Allistra: (Click here for the drow dictionary)
