Description
Falgares is in his early thirties, and even though he spent several years in seclusion learning the magic arts he still has the corpulence he acquired in his youth with hard work. He has a very stern expression and demeanor, showing that he has had many unpleasant experiences. His eyes are brown, always filled with seething hatred for something; his hair is black, dirty and wild.
His clothes are always long and dark, covering as much of his body as possible, with a hood covering his head and part of his face, for he usually is looking down as if he couldn't meet the gaze of anyone else.
History
He was born Felgar Thulgaz in a small coastal village, the first born son of a poor fisherman. Life was always very hard for him, he had to work ever since he was a child to help support his family. To make matters worse, his father drank frecuently, and usually discharged his frustations and anger on him and his mother.
When he was ten years old, his parents had another son, Darren. Five years later, Felgar's mother became very ill; because of this, Felgar practically raised his younger brother, since his father worked all day, and wasn't much of a father when he returned home.
Felgar's father had gotten worse than before, drinking more and more as time passed. The beatings he gave his family worsened as well. During those days, Felgar would insult and anger his father upon his arrival, so that he would beat him and not his mother and brother.
A few months later, his father rarely came home, and Felgar always heard the townspeople whispering about him having another woman and such. Felgar was partially relieved by his absence, he didn't make much money, but it was enough to etch out a living.
One night, Felgar came home late from the day's work, only to find his brother crying and his mother on the floor covered with bruises. Darren explained that their father had come looking for money, and tried to beat him when he found none, and their mother had gotten in the way.
To say that Felgar was enraged by this is an understatement, he grabbed a knife and ran out of the house towards a bar his father used to go. He opened the door and stumbled inside, searching for his father. He was there alright, drinking as usual. Felgar approached him by the back and whispered something in his ear: "This is for mother", having said that, he stabbed the man several times.
He barely escaped the place, thanking his luck that most patrons were too drunk to give him chase. But he realized what he had done, he felt no remorse from the murder, but he was now an outlaw, and he doubted they would comprehend that it had to be done.
Frightened, Felgar left the village, hoping his mother and younger brother could survive without him. He was 16 years old at the time.
He spent several years on the run, making a living out of petty stealing and getting involved with all sorts of shadowy characters, he never did well enough, though, and never became anything more than just another small time scoundrel and racketeer.
One day, escaping from the town's guard after a simple theft had gone bad, he entered a ruined building and stumbled upon some secret meeting, with numerous people surrounding a charismatic old man in the middle. He hid, and heard the old man speak of how the crown of the nation had taken everything away from them, speaking of how, united, they could overthrow the tyranny and seek a better life.
Felgar was entranced by the man's words, he had finally found someone to blame for his tragic life, and society was his tormentor, the guilty for driving him towards his current standing. Burning with the desire of joining the man in his quest, he came out of hiding and addressed him.
Needless to say, he was taken prisoner and questioned numerous times. Once they finally convinced themselves that Felgar was not a spy, he was allowed to talk to the old man, the leader of a radical sect that called themselves "The sword of justice", his name was Kandor.
Felgar was allowed to join the sect, who were actually a bunch of terrorists and murderers, possibly worse than the "oppressors" they fought. Nevertheless, Felgar felt a sense of belonging he hadn't felt in a long time, and eagerly participated in everything he could.
Kandor was fascinated and curious about the young man, and took him in as his protegee, and eventually Felgar became Kandor's pupil in the dark necromantic arts. Feeling a new sense of identity, he began calling himself Falgares.
By the time he turned thirty, Falgiares was a respected member of the sect and a powerful necromancer. One day, the sect learned that the king's cousin would be travelling from his keep to the capital city, and Kandor, prone to bloody demonstrations, decided that perhaps the noble's death would make him sit and take notice of them.
Falgares led the attack, he and the others ambushed the carriage and escort and slew them all. As he was leaving, Falgares noticed something familiar about a young soldier who had died moments later. On closer examination, he was horrified to see that it was his younger brother who laid dead at his feet.
On the first town they came to, Falgares left his comrades and anonymously notified the town's guard of their location. The horrid event had made him to realize what he had become, how in his fury at his father and himself he had become a murdering monster, much worse than his father had ever been.
Once again, he has become a fugitive, escaping both from the law and the remnants of the sect he once served.
He is now looking to join a party of adventurers not only because they don't stay in one place too long, but also because he wishes to increase his magical powers enough to seek out and destroy Kandor for having turned him into a murderer.
Roleplaying Falgares
Falgares is a quiet man and he usually keeps to himself, shunning the company of others, for he fears they may learn the truth about his horrible past. He is a bit paranoid, and always feels that other people see him as if they knew all the butcheries in which he participated, he walks dicreetly looking everywhere around him, as if someone was following him.
He is a hard man to deal with, and unless he respects the party's leader, he will disregard his orders and do whatever he sees fit. If the party's leader is authoritative, he will get nothing from Falgares, who has a serious problem with authority, but if the party's leader proves himself in his eyes, Falgares will sacrifice life and limb for him if necessary.
Deep down, Falgares thinks that he is a victim, he has a great anger within him, anger he seeks to focus at whomever he believes is guilty for all the tragedies he has gone through, be it his father, the king, or Kandor, who is the latest "culprit" of everything that Falgares has suffered. In his eyes, he is not guilty of anything, not even the murder of his father or brother, claiming he was pushed to that by other people.
