Described here are the main races of Raokrá and new races particular to this world, even though they are not mentioned here, there are other races like goblins, mind flayers, sahuagin and others.

Humans

By far the most numerous, humans have ruled most of Raokrá for thousands of years, theirs have been the greatest empires, the ascan empire, the thyranian empire, most of the current military forces are ruled by humans. Created by Ascan eons ago, they are definitely the favorite race of most of the forces of life.

Humans have a mixed hatred and admiration for the elven races, and these two have been rivals and enemies ever since Halash began his conquest of Gatzrhé; an enmity that has outlasted centuries and is still present to this day, just waiting to explode into a great war.

Elves

Rulers of Astar and many nations thoughout Raokrá, the elves are a great political and military power. Elves in Raokrá have been victims to many persecutions and attacks from humans, and have grown very cautious of any and all humans. Refusing the horror of battles whenever possible, the elves have abandoned enormous territories to the humans' ever expansive armies (Beginning with Northern Gatzrhé to Halash).

But this, according to the elves, is more than enough, they are no longer willing to pospone a confrontation that seems inevitable, and will battle fiercely to defend themselves from anyone who tries to take Astar or their other remaining sanctuaries.

Due to the persecutions they have been subject of, the elven race as a whole has achieved an enormous degree of cooperation among themselves. Elven nations do not battle among themselves (at least not with weapons), and help each other whenever the need arises. Elves do not have the foolish human desire to conquer everything, and the elven armies serve two main purposes; to defend themselves from the Drow that dwell beneath Astar, and to discourage any greedy human nations from trying to attack them.

Half-elves

Unlike many other places, half-elves are readily accepted in elven society, and even though the most conservative of elves still regard them as tainted, most elves believe that they are more elven than human.

Truly, half-elves (with exceptions, of course) feel that they fit better among elves than humans.

Dwarves

There are not many dwarves in Raokrá, and there are only a few dwarven nations known to exist. They mostly dwell in mountains or villages in human lands, since humans tend to accept dwarves due to their superior blacksmithing skills. There is no hatred or resentment from humans towards dwarves, and the two races have a history of cooperation between them.

Of course, the enmity between dwarves and elves is present in Raokrá.

Avians

A strange race of eagle like creatures, the avians came to Raokrá in the year 30 during the ascension era, apparently falling from the very sky along with huge pieces of wood and metal. The truth is, the avians are not native to Raokrá, they are originally from Grakkra, another planet within the same sphere as Raokrá, and the first avians to arrive came to Raokrá to explore and colonize it. The Avians from Grakkra know spelljamming and actually control most of the sphere.

Avians are Raokrá are very different, the original are very militaristic, their society being rigidly divided in castes. The Avians of Raokrá have rebelled and broken away from all the ancient restrictions of their race, they live in a nearly wild state, forming small comunities in tall forests. Every community has a representative to a greater council that rules all communities in times of trouble.

Avians have humanoid shapes, standing as tall as humans; they have lean and muscled bodies covered with silver or brown feathers. Avians have six appendages, two arms, two legs and a pair of great wings. Their hands end in eagle like claws with opposable fingers, and their resemble a strange mixture between the bone structure of a man and a bird. Their heads are very similar to that of a Kenku, resembling an eagle's head, beak and all.

Avians are wild, free spirits, and live closely related to nature, which is practically the only thing these creatures worship. The most common and appropiate alignment for an avian would be Chaotic in nature, especially chaotic neutral (no wonder other races consider avians to be mentally unstable). Evil avians are a true oddity, but it is possible.

They are a claustrophobic lot, they love open spaces and wonder how the little humans (their name for dwarves) can like being in caves and closed quarters.

Civilized ( civilized only because they live in a city) avians, for their part, are normally quite extravagant, being very fond of unusual colors and attires, and usually dress in garish clothes, certainly extravagant enough to be the center of attention.

Avians live up to 200 years.

A player character Avian can become a druid, ranger, fighter, thief, mage; they can also choose to be a multiclass Druid/Ranger (called Grakkarrakan, or "Forest Child", being revered and respected by all other avians), Druid/Fighter, Fighter/mage, Fighter/thief, Mage/thief, or Druid/Mage.

Avians have their own lenguage, which consists mostly of shrieks, the reason why other races consider it quite bothersome to listen to.

Avians have daytime vision superior to humans and their nightvision allows them to see up to 90 feet in the darkness.

They are expert archers, rivaling the elves themselves, and recieve a +1 bonus to hit with any bow.

Avians can use their wings to fly, they have type C flight.

Avians are physically superior to most races, and recieve a bonus of +1 to dexterity (max 19) and strenght (max 18), but deduct a point from their initial scores of charisma and constitution.

The Primals

Primals are NOT a race avalaible to PCs

Primals are ancient creatures, they are the result of natural evolution rather than divine intervention, they came to be many centuries before any other sentient race, they were the masters of creation before any human or elf even existed. When the sentient races were created, the time for these Primals came to an end, and the gods themselves made them aware to it. Nearly all primals agreed to their fate and withdrew to an unknown underground location far from prying eyes.

However, not all primals fell meekly, and some challenged the gods' decision, and began to predate the primitive elves and humans. Ascan himself intervened and forced the last primals (made of snake stock) to their prison.

During the ascan golden era, these primals escaped their imprisonment and tried to overthrow the ascan power; unfortunately for them, the impressive powers that were at the ascans' command allowed them to defeat the primals, killing large numbers of them and sealing the survivors within a mystical prison.

The Primals' story of death and destruction would have ended then and there. But during the great cataclysm, Rao's efforts to destroy the world inadvertenly (really?) freed the primals from their slumber. And now the feared primals are going again free to plan the destruction of all sentient races.

In ascan myth, there were a kind of primal for every animal in the world, but the primals that rebelled are those that resemble snakes. Primals are humanoid creatures, their skin is covered with dark green rock hard (natural AC 1) scales, their hands are large claws, much longer and sharper than that of any natural predator. Their head is human-shaped, except they have no nose, only two tiny holes. Their eyes are snake-like, and their mouths are filled with razor sharp teeth reeking of their deadly poison.

Primals are fierce fighters, they are able to dish out three attacks per round in unarmed combat, they strike with their claws (1d6/1d6) and bite their opponents inflicting 1d8 of biting damage and injecting a deadly poison capable of killing in minutes ( 3d6/death, onset time 1-3 rounds).

Primals are immune to any poisons and are very resistant to magic (60% magic resistance)

All primals are multiclassed Fighter/mages, but have the THAC0 and combat abilities of a pure fighter.

Primal society is a rigid structure resembling a pack, they are ruled by the strongest member, in this case being an extremely old primal said to have been one of the original primals, this creature, whose name cannot be pronounced in any but primal lenguage, is a 20/20 fighter/mage bent on destroying all sentient creatures.

The primals would have already emerged victorious if it were not for the fact that their numbers are very small. Given this, they prefer to frame other beings into fighting among themselves rather than attacking themselves.

All other aspects of primal life like reproduction, family structure and such are completely unknown.
