Clan Assamite

The Assamite are the oldest of all the clans; far older than those of the Camarilla, who had not even formed their clans when the Assamites were born.

It began in the first city, called En'esh. Here, Khayvin (Caine) ceased his wandering and created the Second Generation, who numbered five. The kafir speak of three, but there were really five. It was in En'esh that Haquim lived, and where his children, those of the Assamite, were born.

Haquim was the Lord of the armies of En'esh, a great and noble warrior, beloved of the King, feared and loved by the people. He saw how Khayyin, the wanderer, entered the city with lies, bending the king and queen to his will. Haquim saw how they were made, how they were taught, and knew the great evil that would spread from them. The priests, armies or city walls would not be able to stop this evil, and this greatly troubled Haquim.

He gathered certain loyal soldiers and slew the king and queen by day, cutting off their heads and gathered up the blood in a goblet. Haquim then sliced his throat, watching his blood flow away. While the last of his strength was fleeing him, the soldiers gave him the cup to drink, and he did not die.

Some soldiers feared that Haquim would become as the King and Queen were, but, reassuring them, he said "Be not afraid, for my purpose is true, and I shall use the beast's own strength against it." The soldiers rejoiced, freely giving their blood so that Haquim would live and become strong.

Khayyin rose from where his sleep that night, and when he saw what had happened to the King and Queen he grew angry. He came to the soldiers as a djinn, tearing their bodies apart. Haquim woke and fought Khayyin that entire night, but, as Haquim was still young in Blood and sore from his Change, Khayyin prevailed. He drained Haquim and flung him on the sand, and when the sun rose, Khayyin fled to his hiding-place.

When Khayyin was gone, the soldiers covered Haquim with a cloak, shut him in a casket and took him from the city. They still had some blood from the King and Queen, and with it they healed Haquim. For a long time they traveled, until they came to the far mountains where Khayyin could not find them. There they built a great but secret fortress called Alamut, the Eagles Nest, for it was lofty and strong. Haquim rested and tended his wounds, and grew stronger in the Blood. Certain of his soldiers, whom he found worthy were made of the Blood also, and he bade them make war upon Khayyin and his progeny so their evil would not stain the earth.

Khayyin, as Haquim knew, made more children in the First City, and these three became known as Second Generation. They knew not, however, like the King and Queen; Khayyin refused to affright them with their own mortality. All the while, Khayyin did nto know that Haquim still lived.
