SDA claim: Jesus did not come in the flesh

The Bible declares that one test of a people espousing false doctrines (antichrists and false prophets) would be the denial that Jesus came in the flesh.

1Jn:4:2: Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: KJV

1Jn:4:3: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world. KJV

2Jn:1:7: For many deceivers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. KJV

The meaning "in the flesh" means that Jesus came as you and I did, as a real person.  He was 100% God and 100% man. He was tested with the sins we all see everyday, and He did not come with special abilities to use on Himself, that we do not have.  When Jesus died on the Cross, he died as a 100% man and 100% God,  with no special favors or powers.  Jesus died. The Bible exclaims that God the Father raised Jesus from the dead by the power of The Holy Spirit. Here are just a few of the many texts that tell the story of Jesus raised.

Acts:3:15: And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

Acts:4:10: Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

1Thes:1:10: And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Acts:13:30: But God raised him from the dead:

Acts:13:34: And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

Acts:17:31: Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

Rom:4:24: But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;

Rom:6:4: Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom:7:4: Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Rom:8:11: But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Rom:10:9: That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Gal:1:1: Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)

Eph:1:20: Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places,

Col:2:12: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.

1Thes:1:10: And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

Heb:11:19: Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure.

Heb:13:20: Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant,

1Pt:1:3: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,

1Pt:1:21: Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

Now that we know how Jesus was raised from the dead by God the Father, through the power of The Holy Spirit, let's see how the SDA Church says Jesus came back from the dead.

"I am the resurrection, and the life" (John 11:25). He who had said, "I lay down my life, that I might take it again" (John 10:17), came forth from the grave to life that was in Himself. Humanity died; divinity did not die. In His divinity, Christ possessed the power to break the bonds of death. He declares that He has life in Himself to quicken whom He will. (Ellen Gould White, Selected Messages Book 1, page 301, paragraph 1)

All that comprised the life and intelligence of Jesus remained with His body in the sepulcher; and when He came forth it was as a whole being; He did not have to summon His spirit from heaven. He had power to lay down His life and to take it up again (Ellen Gould White, 3SP 203, 204).

This is not the spirit that comes through so clearly in the Bible.  The spirit we see in the Writings of Ellen Gould White are the works of  another spirit, not The Holy Spirit that inspired the Bible. To learn more about Ellen Gould White and her role in the SDA Church, follow this link.
