FIND OUT
in general terms what can be seen at a given time.
Remember, you should rather plan your observing session by
using the Uranometria 2000.0 index interfaces.
Question: When is Antlia well-placed for observing? Is
Sculptor high in the sky during March? The first set of tables can be used
to answer questions such as these. They show the date on which the centre of
each constellation culminates at midnight, i.e. on what day, at midnight, does
the middle of the constellation reach its highest point.
Question: How are NGC and IC numbers arranged? The
second group of tables shows the distribution of NGC and IC numbers according to
their right ascension. Once you know the RA, you can look up the approximate
time of visibility. Of course, this ranges widely and will be more inaccurate
the nearer the object is to the poles. But hey, its better than nothing. |
