Nov 2009 - best of my notebook -
I used 2 be an angry, cynical atheist! Yes, if you had told me i would get right into meditation & reading books like cwg & treating everyone with compassion ... well, I would have absolutely laughed in your face!
Saved myths about meditation
Read un-medicated journals - many thoughts about the OLD forum & judging & how 2 treat those you disagree with ... a LOT of it was trying 2 "prove" a point & "I have peace-of- mind and you don't. Ha Ha Ha!" ---> see CHOPRA7 (& TASHA :)
"For peace-of-mind make no comparisons." - included a 'smiley' in biro -
Taking things 4 granted - TV + DVD + CD + PC + electricity + food + Haloperidol + books + Mind + Fitness ---> SKILLS of sportsmen + singers + actors + authors ...
The Zone - see Mum email in Nov 3 2009 journal - I have experienced it playing tennis & squash (& cricket)
Mind maps for happiness - saved it Nov 2 2009 - look at them - great 4 visualising
see page 63 of this - Some thoughts lead 2 peace of mind & others don't ... that's what meditation is ALL about - observing & analysing and cultivating positive states of mind ...
For example page 160 - we ALL have the potential 4 FULL enlightenment
Looking back, a LOT of my posts were "lectures" and not motivated by genuine compassion :)
And my reaction 2 being "attacked" was rarely inner disarmament!
"I would have said EXACTLY the same thing once-upon-a-time!" :)
Journal Nov 11 & 12 - God & book & human imagination & religious writings over the centuries
From ET101 - Messiah Complex :)
Make heroes out of those who possess wisdom & compassion
I also have 2 watch 4 signs of feeling "superior" to all the unenlightened ... and patronising or belittling!
The new Chopra forum has a few posts of mine - esp the recent Katt thread :)
Yes, one ought 2 be compassionate toward the unenlightened because you KNOW what it is like and how you rarely have peace-of-mind or it is fleeting ... there was more but I forget ... you know from DIRECT experience it is fundamentally unsatisfying! ... and people do MANY stange things in response!
Glimpse of the day has a LOT about training our restless minds :)
I used 2 think everyone with "faith" was soft in the head! ... or worse! Fawning
Wrote those last few on a day where i read about 220 pages on Little Book & had coffee with George & the shrink part of which was Dalai & what a great example he is of his beliefs - see george33
Meditating your way 2 enlightenment is nothing new - the Buddha did it 2500 years ago!
One notable aspect of reading Little Book is defining compassion as well as the desire 2 reach enightenment 2 hepl all sentient beings - that's the Bodhisattva Vow (spelling?)
A lot of human suffering is the direct result of having an undisciplined mind. Not 2 mention lack of genuine compassion!
Okay ... one more ... Little book advises us 2 regard everyone as if they have been your mother in a previous life. Even if at this moment they appear 2 be your "enemy"
More 4 Genesis excerpts - yes, evidence 4 God would include fact that meditation & other spiritual practices have worked wonders 4 countless people!
P 247 of Little Book - transform attitude towards those you might ordinarily avoid or reject
Plus why human realm is perfect 4 attaining enlightement
I'm sorry but if you love some people more than others that is NOT love. That is attachment.
Did I save mindfulness trainings? - checked - did save the 5 & the 14!
Should transcribe more of Gyuto monks ... or visit this page
If it was easy the world would be full of enlightened beings, which it clearly is not!
Yes, nonjudgement is recommended NOT because judging is "wrong" or immoral but because it interferes with your peace of mind!
Unbiased compassion & equanimity
Have patience with your imperfections - that's in wisdom.htm
Now that Mum has Little Book of Wisdom - read Surya! Bodhisattva is perfectly described!
Page 214 is Metta & chants
Could underline the entire book
"The world would be a MUCH better place if only people would follow MY example."
Denise? - I would say that MOST people do NOT know what it is like 2 have a serene & tranquil mind. So you are not alone. BUT once you have had a GLIMPSE nothing else matters.
That's down to page 72 of the notebook ... add 2 this list if you think you need even MORE help!
Now Jan 2010 - click here 4 latest version of my notebook :)
