Yellow Corridor #2
PRODIGY, Red Files:

In 1963 The Centre, in cooperation with a fertility clinic/ adoptions agency called NuGenesis, and a safe-house called Angel Manor, instigated the PRODIGY experiments. The experiments, also known as The Pretender Project, revolved around child geniuses who were genetically pre-disposed to be "Pretenders" (persons with the innate and/or enhanced ability to become anyone in any occupation they chose.) Although dozens of children were accessed and tested for the project, only seven were specifically isolated as the best candidates for the experiments. Those children best suited for experimentation were kidnapped from their homes and isolated in The Centre. Some were turned over to the care and training of Dr. Sydney Green, while other were turned over to Dr. William Raines.
Test Subject Jarod was found to be a "natural Pretender", and other test subjects were augmented through neuro-electric shock treatment and brain wave manipulation therapy in an attempt to re-create Subject Jarod's ability in the other subjects. Results were highly mixed. Test Subject Timmy developed into an empathic savant, almost incapable of expressing himself verbally. Test Subject Danny went insane, and developed multiple personalities, including the aggressive "Einnad" personality. And Test Subject Bobby, a sociopath, developed as an adult into a psychopathic killer.
PRODIGY came to a halt in the 1970s after Catherine Parker, wife of Mr. Parker and mother of Miss Parker, was executed in a Centre elevator by the "man in the dark suit". After that time, no new test subjects were acquired for the project; however, experimentation and "SIM" lab testing continued on the seven test subjects already in Centre custody. In the 1980s, much of Dr. Raines' personal experiments were halted when a fire gutted SL-27.
In the Fall of 1996 Subject Jarod escaped from The Centre, and is still at large.
In 1998, Mr. Raines and Dr. DeWitt of NuGenesis attempted to reinstate the PRODIGY experiments, and rebuild SL-27, but their attempts were thwarted by Subject Jarod and Dr. Sydney Green. Subject Jarod appropriated Test Subject Davy before he could be properly "enhanced" by Dr. Raines, and Sydney devastated much of SL-27 again with a fire bomb.

RED FILE #1: Subject Bobby Once "Bobby Bowman", test subject Bobby was adopted, through NuGenesis, by the Bowman family in the early 60's. He was considered to be an agreeable and loving child until around 1978, when Bobby was "visited" by a "counselor" who convinced Bobby to murder his best friend. Bobby's attitudes and personality went through a violent shift during this period, and he eventually ended up attacking his adoptive father, Lyle Bowman, with a shovel. After Bobby murdered his friend, he used his friend's decapitated and decomposed body as a "prop" in a scheme to put Lyle Bowman in prison. Mistaking the friend's body for Bobby's, police and FBI agents believed that Lyle Bowman had murdered Bobby, arrested him on homicide charges and convicted him of murder. Lyle Bowman is currently still in prison for this crime. After he faked his death, Bobby adopted the identity of "Mr. Lyle" and became a key figure in the upper echelon at The Centre. He was known to have conducted cryogenics and cardiac experiments on Subject Jarod in October of 1995, but much of his work in and out of The Centre is still classified. It is believed that during the 1980s and much of the 1990's, Mr. Lyle was a favorite of the Triumvirate, and allowed almost unlimited access to Centre resources and facilities. In 1997, Mr. Lyle, with the assistance of his Cleaner, Brigitte (also known as Bridget), attempted to oust Mr. Parker from The Centre. This attempt failed, and as a result The Triumvirate distanced themselves from Mr. Lyle. As an associated effect of this failure, Mr. Lyle was subsequently tracked down by the Japanese Mafia (the yakuza) and deprived of one of his thumbs. March of 1998 brought a flurry of activity from Mr. Lyle and his Cleaner Brigitte. Early in the month Brigitte arrived at The Centre, falsified a security "lock down" of facility, and attempted to assassinate Mr. Parker. Her attempt failed thanks to the interference by Miss Parker and Subject Jarod. Later in the month, Brigitte attempted to align herself with The Triumvirate again by attempting a re-capture of Subject Jarod. This attempt failed as well. Late in the month, Mr. Lyle reappeared at the Centre's Satellite off, #14, in Hartford, Connecticut. He executed everyone in the facility and stole from the computer Blue Box a set of genetic codes linked to Subject Jarod and the PRODIGY experiments. He was later tracked down by Miss Parker and shot in an armed altercation at Hillman Marine. Lyle was presumed dead by Miss Parker, even though the body that was later fished out of the river adjacent to Hillman Marine was headless and unidentifiable (except for its missing thumb). Unidentified Centre operatives later saw to it that the body was cremated, so no DNA testing could be done to verify the corpse's identity. In the Spring of 1998, Mr. Lyle re-emerged again in the desert of Arizona, where he successfully captured Subject Jarod and then attempted to ingratiate himself with the Centre's Triumvirate. His plot was thwarted again, however, by the surprise appearance of Subject Kyle, who rescued Jarod and then shot Mr. Lyle. Mr. Lyle disappeared from the desert compound, and his whereabouts are, as of now, unknown. Information indicates that it is possible that Mr. Lyle is the fraternal twin of Miss Parker, but as that information is HIGHLY CLASSIFIED, it has not as yet been verified. RED FILE #2:Subject Dannie
Dannie was once a psychiatric patient known as Dannie Minor. Dannie had been suffering from mild depression, and was turned over for therapy to a "Dr. William" (aka William Raines). When it was discovered that Dannie was genetically predisposed to be a pretender, Dr. Raines subjected him to drug therapy, brain wave manipulation tests, and neuro-stimulation. The results of this testing were not positive. Dannie developed a multiple personality disorder and had to be confined in SL-27 until the 1980s, when he was removed from The Centre and placed in a warehouse facility nearby. One of the most prominent personalities to emerge in Subject Dannie was that of Ennaid: a violent vengeful personality that, at one time, attacked Mr. Raines in a Centre parking lot with a straight razor. Willie the Sweeper was sent to the warehouse facility to dispose of Ennaid/Dannie. He attempted to set the place afire, but his efforts were discovered by Miss Parker, Broots and Dr. Sydney Green before the fire could fully involve the structure. Dannie was rescued and institutionalized under the care of Dr. Sydney Green. Miss Parker saw to it that Mr. Parker was advised of Mr. Raines' extracurricular activities with Dannie, but no visible repercussions have been noticed as a result of her disclosure. RED FILE #3:Subject Kyle
The biological younger brother of Subject Jarod, Subject Kyle showed great promise as a potential pretender. His brain was more easily manipulated than Subject Jarod's, and so he was used in an experiment, spearheaded by Mr. Raines, on the development of a "manufactured sociopath". Subject Kyle was allowed limited contact with Subject Jarod when they were children. This contact proved to be something of a hindrance, however, when it was discovered that the boys were attempting to communicate secretly with one another. The Tower signed off on a release of Subject Kyle when he was approximately 10 years old, but he wasn't immediately removed from The Centre. Instead the Tower's directive was ignored by Mr. Raines, and Subject Kyle was eventually removed from the corridor where he occupied a room next door to Subject Jarod's, and ensconced in SL-27, where he remained until he was in his mid-twenties. During his time with Mr. Raines in SL-27, Subject Kyle was put through various SIMs (simulations) which honed and exaggerated his psychopathic propensities. In one SIM he assassinated Dr. Martin Luther King, for example, and in another he shot bullets into a full-sized cardboard cut-out of Catherine Parker. Documentation of Subject Kyle's SIMs was kept in the Blue Notebooks. His regular mantra was: "I decide who lives or dies... I decide who lives or dies..." Upon his release from The Centre in or around 1987, Subject Kyle went on a felony rampage around the country, and was eventually arrested as a criminal known to the authorities only as "John Doe". John Doe was imprisoned for ten years, and during that time he was visited regularly by Mr. Raines (who posed as his "doctor"). In 1997, Subject Kyle escaped from prison, and went in pursuit of one Harriet Tashman, an ex-nun who had an association with Catherine Parker, and who, Subject Kyle believed, knew of the whereabouts of his mother and father (Margaret and Charles). After having found and kidnapped Ms. Tashman, Subject Kyle took her to a Centre safehouse (known as The Dragon House) and attempted to torture information out of her as regarded his family. His efforts were interrupted by the arrival of Subject Jarod (who rescued Tashman), and Mr. Raines and Willie the Sweeper (who were able, with help from Miss Parker and her Sweeper team, recapture Subject Kyle.) Subject Kyle was returned to The Centre, and Mr. Raines attempted to silence him by having a lobotomy performed on him. Before the operation could take place, however, Subject Jarod infiltrated The Centre and rescued Subject Kyle. The two escaped to Harriet Tashman's farm and remained there until the FBI was informed, by Mr. Raines, that Subject Kyle, aka John Doe, was staying at the farm. When FBI agents arrived to arrest Subject Kyle, Subject Jarod attempted to flee with him. The two were in a van which was driven off the road by pursuing FBI agents, and crashed. Subject Jarod escaped from the van with Ms. Tashman, while Subject Kyle remained inside the van with a broken leg. Although it was believed that Subject Kyle was killed with the gas tank of the van shot and the van exploded, it was later learned that Subject Kyle survived the crash and was able to crawl to safety. Subject Kyle reappeared in and around Blue Cove, while he stalked and photographed Miss Parker and Broots, and in the Spring of 1998, he re-emerged in Arizona to rescue Subject Jarod from Mr. Lyle. During an armed altercation with Mr. Lyle, Subject Kyle was shot and killed. His heart was donated (via Subject Jarod) to a young boy in Dry River, Arizona. RED FILE #4: Subject Jarod
Subject Jarod has proven to be the most successful Pretender thusfar developed by The Centre. His natural abilities lead him to show a genius-level grasp of SIMs and other tests even at a very early age. He was an obliging and studious test subject until the late months of 1996, when he escaped from The Centre with a cache of DSAs, and refused to return. The Centre's investment in him lost when he vanished, it now seeks to have him reinstated in The Centre as soon as possible. Subject Jarod, however, has displayed a violent attitude toward reunification with The Centre, often thwarts efforts made by others in The Centre's interest, and regularly exploits Centre funding for his own private projects. Driven in part by an unquenchable altruism, Subject Jarod now uses his finely honed Pretender skills to "help the little guy": anyone in need of ready assistance. The longer Subject Jarod remains outside of The Centre's sphere of influence, the more difficult it will be to "repatriate" him. Although a T-Board interrogation of Miss Parker, Broots, and Dr. Sydney Green failed to produce verifiable proof that they were assisting Subject Jarod in his determination to remain free of The Centre, it is believed that they do regularly feed him information, and impede Centre attempts to recapture him. To date, Subject Jarod remains at large. For more information about Subject Jarod return to the Main Corridor and proceed down Green Corridor #3.

RED FILE #5: Subject TimmySubject Timmy was acquired in the early 60's around the same time as the other PRODIGY children. Originally under the supervision of Dr. Sydney Green, Subject Timmy was eventually turned over to Mr. Raines for brain wave manipulation therapy and neuro-electric stimulation in Room 155 of SL-27. As with Subject Kyle, the results of the therapy were mixed at best. The treatments resulted in the total suppression of Subject Timmy's personality and the loss of his pretender potential, and resulted instead in the emergence of the Angelo persona. At first it was believed that Subject Angelo was something of a human sponge -- able to "absorb" other people's personalities and "digest" them -- but more recent developments proved that Subject Angelo is, in fact, empathic. When given the personal possessions of another individual, and in some cases when given something another individual has touched only once, Angelo is able to discern to whom the objects belonged and what was going through the mind of the last person who touched the objects. When touching a sculpture created by Subject Jarod, for example, Subject Angelo was able to "feel" Jarod's emotional state at the time the sculpture was done. In other instances, Subject Angelo was able to accurately indicate that photographs sent anonymously to The Centre had come from Subject Kyle; and that a soft drink bottle found in an alley had last been handled by Mr. Lyle. In 1998 Subject Angelo was put through a serotonin drug therapy (created by Subject Jarod and administered by Dr. Sydney Green) which helped to reinstate his original "Timmy" personality. The therapy was interrupted mid-stream, however, and Subject Timmy regressed back into his Angelo persona. The manifestation of the Angelo personality is now permanent and irreversible. Evidence presented in the original Red Files suggests that Subject Angelo may be Miss Parker's fraternal twin brother. It is either he or Mr. Lyle. DNA testing has not yet been completed to establish which of the two it is. For more information about Subject Timmy and Angelo see The Pretenders Archive @ Fortunecity. [Linked with permission.]

RED FILE #8: Subject Miss ParkerAlthough not pursued as a candidate in PRODIGY or the Pretender Project, Miss Parker did show the genetic predisposition visible in all potential pretenders, and she was tested at NuGenesis by Dr. Boris Haring. The look-alike daughter of Catherine Parker, Miss Parker was provided with a multi-cultural education (which included some college work in Japan), and spent some time in SIS at The Centre as head of security for several years. Once a Cleaner, Miss Parker eventually "graduated" into The Centre's corporate level. It wasn't until 1996, when Subject Jarod escaped, that Miss Parker was pulled out of corporate and placed in the unenviable position of having to head the pursuit and capture of Subject Jarod. Although Miss Parker at time appears to be dedicated to the pursuit, she often displays an emotional (and perhaps even sexual) confusion about Subject Jarod's place in her life. Although she has been given ample opportunity to re-capture him, and even had him in custody on several occasions, Subject Jarod has managed to elude her every effort. When she had him in custody in the Florida Keys, for example, he managed to both elude her and escape with a Centre-owned helicopter. At another time, when given the opportunity to shoot him in Miami, she "missed" her target, and Subject Jarod escaped. And in yet another instance, when she had Subject Jarod in custody and was transporting him to The Centre via a Centre-owned jet, Subject Jarod again managed to escape -- and stole the jet in the process. In 1998 when she encountered Subject Jarod and Mr. Fenigor in the Dover Town Bank, Miss Parker even assisted in Subject Jarod's attempts to apply first aid to Mr. Fenigor (when he suffered a gunshot wound to the lung), and later assisted in his successful escape from the bank. When subjected to a T-Board examination by Mr. Raines, the Cleaner Brigitte, and Mr. Parker, Miss Parker displayed nothing but open contempt for the procedure, and for The Centre, and refused cooperation. Regardless of her affiliation with Mr. Parker, the possibility of her continued place among The Centre hierarchy is highly dubious. PRODIGY REVISITED - 1998
An attempt to reinstate the PRODIGY project in 1998 failed after test Subject Davy was rescued from the Angel Manor safehouse by Subject Jarod. Although areas of SL-27 were rebuilt to accommodate the new pretender project, much of SL-27 was obliterated again by a fire bomb set off in the sub-level by Dr. Sydney Green.
