The Pretender Project

Classified

As stated previously, the escape of Subject Jarod and his continued emancipation from his habitat at The Centre has become the focus for a massive global man-hunt by The Centre's SIS retrieval unit, the Triumvirate, and Mr. Raines. Due to the extremely sensitive nature of Subject Jarod's knowledge, abilities, and genetic structure, his re-capture is a priority objective. Subject Jarod has proven to be most elusive due, in part, to his chameleon-like ability to blend in to any situation and/or occupation.

As also stated previously, Subject Jarod has proven to be the most successful Pretender thusfar developed by The Centre. His natural abilities lead him to show a genius-level grasp of SIMs and other tests even at a very early age. He was an obliging and studious test subject until the late months of 1996, when he escaped from The Centre with a cache of DSAs, and refused to return. The Centre's investment in him lost when he vanished, it now seeks to have him reinstated in The Centre as soon as possible.

Subject Jarod at age 4; date of retrieval by The CentreSubject Jarod, however, has displayed a violent attitude toward reunification with The Centre, often thwarts efforts made by others in The Centre's interest, and regularly exploits Centre funding for his own private projects. Driven in part by an unquenchable altruism, Subject Jarod now uses his finely honed Pretender skills to "help the little guy": anyone in need of ready assistance.

The longer Subject Jarod remains outside of The Centre's sphere of influence, the more difficult it will be to "repatriate" him. Although a T-Board interrogation of Miss Parker, Broots, and Dr. Sydney Green failed to produce verifiable proof that they were assisting Subject Jarod in his determination to remain free of The Centre, it is believed that they do regularly feed him information, and impede Centre attempts to recapture him.

To date, Subject Jarod remains at large.

Subject Jarod was born in 1959. Around this time his "parents", Margaret and Charles commissioned the staff at the NuGenesis Fertility and Adoptions Clinic in Georgia to assist them in conceiving a child. They worked with Nugenesis for a period of approximately six months, and eventually took custody of "Baby Jarod". The family resided at 240 Route 1, Charlevoix, Michigan until 1963.

In 1963 Subject Jarod was tested at NuGenesis for the genetic predisposition which indicated his suitability as a Pretender candidate. Subject Jarod showed an innate propensity for "the gift" and a genius-capacity mentality. Subject Jarod was then removed from the Charlevoix home by Centre opetatives. Margaret and Charles avoided Centre attempts to extinguish them, and vanished. The Centre took control of the Charlevoix property and burned the house standing on it to its foundations. The property remains vacant to this date. [In 1998 Subject Jarod was spotted looking over the property with a local real estate agent, but he declined to purchase it.]

Between 1963 and 1968, Subject Jarod remained in the custody of The Centre, isolated from popular culture, and participated in Centre instigated "Simulations" ["SIMs"] under the tutelage of Dr. Syndey Green. During this period, Subject Jarod had limited contact with other Subjects, although he was seen, on occasion, to be interacting with the daughter of Catherine Jameson-Parker.

In 1968, Subject Jarod was allowed more access to and interaction with Subject Kyle. The boys were siblings; but their biological relationship was kept secret from them. Although this interaction, at first, seemed to stimulate Subject Jarod's interest in more elaborate SIMs, and also seemed to fill his apparent need for interaction with peers, it was discovered that the boys were using their genuis-level capacities to subvert Centre control by attempting to communicate covertly with one another. Further interaction between Subject Jarod and Subject Kyle was ceased, and Subject Kyle was removed to Sub-Level 27 at the direction of Mr. Raines.

Envelope found in Mr. Fenigor's safe deposit boxSubject Jarod's isolation in The Centre continued until 1996.

In 1969 Subject Jarod's "parents", Margaret and Charles, resurfaced at the farm of Harriet Tashman. They were supplied with protection, anonymity and seclusion by Tashman and Catherine Jameson-Parker. During this year their daughter Emily was born.

In 1970 Catherine Jameson-Parker and Special Expeditor, Mr.Fenigor, attempted to "rescue" Subjects Timmy and Jarod from The Centre. All attempts failed. Catherine Jameson-Parker was then executed by "the man in the dark suit" in a Centre elevator. Her death was witnessed by Subject Timmy, but he was unable to positively identify her attacker. Her execution was labeled a "suicide" until the late 1990s.

In 1982 a fire of "unknown origins" gutted Sub-Level 27, destroying the laboratories and over 100 other rooms in the sub-level. Around the same time, a worker is SL-27, dressed in Haz-Mat gear was executed with a bullet through the eye. The fire destroyed Mr. Raines' offices, labs and living quarters, and nearly killed him. His lungs were permanently seared by heat and smoke inhalation; he never fully recovered. Mr.Raines is now forced to breathe with the help of supplemental oxygen (supplied by a mobile oxygen tank).

In 1987 Subject Kyle escaped from Centre custody and went on a cross-country felonious rampage in search of Margaret and Charles. After he located and kidnapped Harriet Tashman, he was arrested by FBI agents and put into prison under the pseudonym, "John Doe". John Doe remained in prison, and was visited on occasion by Mr. Raines, for a period of ten years. During this time, Subject Jarod was unaware of Subject Kyle's re-emergence, escape, and inprisonment, but it was later learned that Subject Angelo communicated with Subject Kyle through the postal service.

Subject Jarod, circa 1996During the last three weeks of October in 1995, Subject Jarod was forceably removed from his rooms by Mr. Lyle and Mr. Raines and subjected to experimentation, including a test during which Subject Jarod was encased in a cryo-freeze chamber and allowed to "die" (before being resuscitated by Mr. Raines.) Other experimentation conducted on Subject during this period is strictly classified. During this period, Dr. Syndey Green was removed from The Centre and instructed to attend a symposium in Europe.

In the Fall of 1996, Subject Jarod escaped from Centre custody with a cache of DSAs which contained detailed information about his life at The Centre, the various SIMs in which he participated, and some of the experiments to which he was subjected. Private archival material, however, was kept out of his reach, such as the personal archives of Mr. Raines and Centre surveilance videos.

Upon his escape from The Centre, Subject Jarod immediately used his innate Pretender skills to blend into society and, for a time, disappeared. He was, however, unable to remain entirely isolated for long, and re-established contact with Dr. Sydney Green of his own accord. He also kept in covert contact with Subject Angelo.

During the year of 1996, Subject Jarod resurfaced on occasion in various Pretender guises. Some of them included:

Thoracic surgeon, Jarod Russell
San Diego, California: Lieutenant in the Coast Guard, Jarod Campbell
Arizona: Test pilot for Skyvionics, Jarod Wright
Las Vegas, Nevada: Security manager, Jarod Falcion
Defense attorney, Jarod Holmes
Miami, Florida: Motorcycle patrolman, Jarod Starr
Portland, Oregon: Horace Greeley High School teacher, Mr. Jarod
Skokie, Illinois: Virologist at At RIDA ( Regional Infectious Disease Authority), Jarod Riley
Baltimore, Maryland: Coroner's Assistant, Jarod Marley

In 1997 Subject Kyle escaped from prison and succeeded in achieving a temporary reunification with Subject Jarod. Subject Jarod later attempted to make contact with Margaret and Charles in Boston, Massachusetts. This reunification was thwarted by Centre operatives who moved in to re-capture Subject Jarod and extinguish his family. Both attempts failed. Jarod and his family members survived. During this period, however, Mr. Raines was assaulted by Dr. Sydney Green, who missed shooting Raines directly, and instead struck the oxygen tank, which exploded and engulfed Mr. Raines in flames. As a result, Mr. Raines underwent months of skin graft therapy in the Centre Infirmary in SL-14.

During the year of 1997, as in 1996, Subject Jarod established and subsequently vacated "lairs" in different places throughout North America as he fled Centre custody while also pursuing his altruistic desire to "help the little guy" in his various Pretender personas. Among these new personas were:
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania: Firefighter, Jarod O'Leary
Bomb squad expert, Jarod Nobel

1998 proved to be a busy one for Subject Jarod. Centre research has verified that he, again, assumed several different Pretender personas, including but not limited to:

Washington, DC: Army Ranger Lieutenant, Jarod Patton
Oakland, California: Haz-Mat Expert, ECS (Environmental Containment Systems), Jarod Dupont
Stunt Coordinator for Blaster Beer commercials, Jarod Lugosi
Subject Jarod as a HAZ Mat specialist

During 1998 Subject Jarod was also briefly reuited with Subject Kyle after Subject Jarod was lured into the Arizona desert by Subject Bobbie (aka Mr.Lyle) and nearly maimed. Subject Bobbie successfully executed Subject Kyle, but was unable to extinguish Subject Jarod. Subject Bobbie then disappeared.

In late Spring/ early Summer of 1998, Subject Jarod discovered the whereabouts of Mr. Fenigor, and confronted him in Dover Town Bank, Dover, Delaware. During this confrontation, the bank was robbed, and Mr. Fenigor was severely wounded. Subjects Jarod and Miss Parker (who had been lured to the bank by Subject Jarod) assisted Mr. Fenigor is his recovery. After the robbery, Mr. Fenigor was removed to Centre custody and isolated in the infirmary.

In June of 1998 Subject Jarod emerged again in Atlanta, Georgia as the Head of Inseminology at the NuGenesis facility under the pseudonym Dr. Jarod Spock. When it was discovered that Subject Jarod was at NuGenesis, and was attempting to thwart the reinstigation of the PRODIGY experiments, Centre operatives were dispatched to the facility to apprehend him. These attempts failed, and Subject Jarod was successful in depriving The Centre of its new potential Pretender, Subject Davy.

However, Subject Jarod subsequently returned to The Centre, on his own accord, in order to extract from Mr. Fenigor information about his past. As Fenigor was heavily sedated and drifting in and out of consciousness, the information Subject Jarod was able to retrieve was limited at best. When Subject Jarod then attempted to escape from The Centre again, he was pursued by Miss Parker, and trapped in SL-27 when a security lock-down was instigated and the doors in the sub-level were all sealed off. Subject Jarod was in SL-27 when a gasoline fueled bomb, placed in the sub-level by Dr. Sydney Green, exploded.
