In fact, if you are playing agnist a fellow Zerg, they can spell disaster to them.
The exit to the Nydus canal can be built on any creep you can currently see, even someone elses creep. I use the Queens to parasite anything that will let me see an ungaurded part of my target's creep, overlords are nice since they move slow and usually don't get clicked on once a player puts them somewhere, and you'll be able to see burrowed units. (I think anyway)
Before I go any further, defilers are a MUST! I'll tell you why in a sec...
In you base you should allready have a nydus canal built and have your ground forces massing nearby. Now you need to distract your opponent. Running 24 zerglings into a expansion gives just enough time to get the exit to the canal built. Bind 24 zerglings to keys, use the A key and click on his expansion on the mini map. Don't bother controling you zerglings, you want them to keep him busy for at least 40 seconds (at normal speed).
Build the exit to the canal on you opponents creep, and as soon as it's finished send your troops through it. They'll pop up in the middle of his base and go wild, bypassing all his defences since you have just avoided all choke points and sunken colonies don't attact the canal exit.
This is where the defilers come in. 3 is a good number. Toss up a couple of dark swarms by the canal and on important buildings, then plauge everything you can! You do more damage in less time this way, something needed when attacking with only ground forces.
If you have the resources, send in an Ultralisk or two. They are great for drawing fire away from groups of Zerglings and hydras. If your opponent should ignore them, too bad for him as you will tear through his base that much faster.
The only time this attack has failed me is when the canal exit was destroyed before it was finished, which makes a distraction a MUST! I've managed to pull this attack off twice agnist the same opponent in the same game, and what he was left with was all too easy to destroy.
Muta-Rush
If you want to have the upper hand in any air battle, use this order, but beware, only use it on air maps.
This is my Muta rush order:
1. (Game starts) Make a Drone, send the 4 you have to separate Mineral piles.
2. (Drone completes) Send him to another Mineral pile.
3. (You have 50 Minerals) Start up sixth (6th) Drone.
4. (50 more Minerals) Make seventh (7th) Drone.
5. (6th Drone finishes) Send him to another Mineral pile.
6. (50 Minerals) Make another Drone, this should be your eigth (8th) Drone.
7. (7th Drone finishes) Send him to a separate Mineral pile.
8. (50 Minerals) Start up your ninth (9th) Drone.
9. (8th Drone finishes) Send him to your Vespene Geyser and have him make your Extractor.
10. (9th Drone finishes) Send him to another separate Mineral pile. (This is actually your 8th Drone now, since the former 8th is being morphed into an Extractor)
11. (100 Minerals are accumulated) Start up an Overlord.
12. (50 Minerals come in) Begin, what now is, your 9th Drone.
13. (9th Drone completes) Send him to harvest Vespene Gas, since your Extractor should've just finished.
14. (150 Minerals accumulate) Take a Drone, that just delived his Minerals to the Hatchery, and have him morph into a Spawning Pool.
15. (Overlord completes) Create another Drone with the 50 Minerals that should've piled up while you waited for the Overlord.
16. (50 Minerals accumulate) Make what is now your 10th Drone. (since you lost another Drone for the Spawning Pool)
17. (9th Drone finishes) Send him to harvest Vespene.
18. (50 Minerals come in) Start your 11th Drone.
19. (10th Drone finishes) Send him to harvest Vespene.
20. (50 Minerals accumulate) Start up your 12th Drone.
21. (11th Drone finishes) Send him to Vespene. (I know this is 4 on one Geyser, but that's the way I usually do it)
22. (12th Drone finishes) Send him to mine Minerals.
23. (Spawning Pool completes + you have 150 Minerals and 100 Gas) Begin morphing your Hatchery into a Lair.
24. (Your Hatchery is morphing) During this time, whenever you get 50 Minerals, start up a Drone until you have 17 total Drones.
25. (16th Drone finishes + you have 100 Minerals) Create an Overlord, after moving the 16th guy onto Minerals.
26. (17th Drone finishes) Send him over to create your Evolution Chamber.
27. (50 Minerals come in) Create your 17th Drone. (Since the last one was just used for the Evolution Chamber)
28. (17th Drone finishes + Overlord finishes + Lair emerges) Send the Drone to create your Spire, and do what you wish with the Overlord. Be sure to replace that Drone immediately.
29. (200 Minerals + 200 Gas accumulate) Research the Ventral Sacs for the Overlords, this is for expanding a bit later.
30. (Evolution Chamber completes) Create 3 Drones, for one purpose only, that is to create 3 Creep Colonies in parts of your base that are open to attack. When the Drones finish, make the Colonies. When the Colonies finish, morph each one into a Spore Colony.
31. (Spire completes) Start the first Attack upgrade, and then make the first couple Mutas with what money you have.
32. (100 Minerals accumulate) Make an Overlord.
This is it, the Mutalisk rush technique I always use. You must follow it step by step, otherwise things get out of hand and you lose track of what to build/morph next. Just keep making Mutalisks and Overlords accordingly, and you shouldn't have to keep too many Mutas at your base because the Spores deter enemies a bit. Whenever an upgrade is done, stop making units and get enough money for the next upgrade, this is extremely helpful.
Hydra Rush
Here is the Hydra Rush Build order:
first four drones to separate mineral patches
make 2 drones (right when u have 50 min.)
build overlord
build drones until u reach 11 drones
wait for 350 min, take drone off and build 2nd hatchery at nearby expansion
while drone is on way, minerals will reach 400, build a drone
the drone u built will be used to morph into spawning pool when u have 150 min
build 2 more drones at 1st base
morph the first into extractor
(whenever extractor finishes, take three off mineals and put them on gas)
when spawning pool finishes, build 4-6 zerglings
when 2nd hatchery finishes, build drones every time u have larva (until u get about 6-7)
after u have started collecting vespene gas, make a hydra den right at 50 gas
when it is done and u already have 6-7 drones at 2nd base, build hydras every chance u get at both bases, i research range first and u should do this soon after u start getting your first hydras (research speed when range is done) and build evolution chamber and research missile attacks
Out of these two bases, u should get about 24-30 upgraded hydras pretty quickly,
Attack and expand for a second time while u are doing this, don't be discouraged if a terran player is able to hold u off), go for queens (spawn broodlings on tanks and ensnare on marines work great) oh well, i am tired of giving away all my strategy so i'll let u guys go!
Mass Producing
You know how you can hot key units and it help while attacking. Well you can also hot key buildings. So this is what i do when i play zerg i hot key my hatcheries from 0,9,8,7... so on. That way i save 1-6 for hot keying my men. But all you have to do is push # of hatchery you want then push S for select larva then select the unit you want to make. You don't even have to go back to any of your bases to do so and it takes such short time to do that way you don't pile up mineral and gas at your base while you attack. I really like doing this when i rush. Try it out. It saved my butt a few times.
The Second Hatchery
Don't use this strategy if you are expecting a very early rush.
Why use this strategy? First of all, it has very good resource management, and you can get your units twice as fast in the EARLY game.
Now, here's the strategy. I have concluded that you are not stupid, and you have probably read other strategies, so I will not go step by step (build drone, build drone, build drone). I will assume that your level of intelegance is higher than my cat.
1) Keep building drones and putting them on minerals until your farm count is at 9/9.
2) When you get 350 minerals, take one drone and make another hatchery (preferably close to your vespian, that way your mineral colectors and vespian colectors won't get in the way of each other).
3) Your farm count should now be at 8/9, so build another drone, and have it make a spawning pool (you should have 150 minerals when it arrives).
4) Build another drone, and have it mine minerals. At the same time, bulid an overlord.
5) Do the next step when the Hatchery, Spawning Pool, and overlord are done. (Note: This would be a good time to chat with your ally, or chat with your anemy to make him/her lose track of their building order)
6) Build 12 zerglings (from 6 larve) and put them in your choke point, at this point, if there is a zerg cpu, it will attack with 12 zerglings, and you will win with about 3 or 4 zerglings left. (At least, in The Hunters the this happens).
7) Keep building zerglings (and overlords) until you feel that you have enough to properly defend your base (24-36 is good). Then, build 6 drones.
8) Have 1 drone make an extractor, 4 waiting to mine from the extractor, and 1 waiting to build a Hydralisk Den. When the extractor is done, have the 4 drones mine it, and when you have 50 vespian, have the 1 drone left build a Hydra Den.
9) Collect resources until the hydra den is done, then build hydras to your heart's content, and then go for guardians/mu ta/queens/de filers/ultras/all of the above, and don't forget to expand.

Queens
With Queens, you can turn a lar ge army int o a small group. Imagine, when the Terrans come with their Siege Tanks and Goliaths, spawn broodlings on them and your broodlings will take care of the marines.
Unfortunately, this cannot be done for air units, so there is the spell 'ensnare'.
Ensnaring can be useful for finding cloaked units and it slows units down. For example, instead of spawing the enemy's scv, why not ensnare it? It will d efinitely slow his harvesting time.
What about parasite? Just cast it on the enemy's units and you can see where they go.
It is better to cast it on a construction unit as it goes around the base to construct buildings.
Defilers
Remember those Defilers? Those units that didnt look too impressive so you decided to cut them out of your game. Well, i got two things to say, Dark Swarm! Plague!!
They work great in just about any situation. If you wanna take out that fortified terran outpost. Dark swarm in front of it, then you have a couple choices: either run your other defilers under it and plague like a mÄDmÄn, or just run your swarm of Hydras with attack range upgrade under it,then hold position,..... or both!!(remember to burrow your defilers for safteys sake, these units are precious!)
I love to use dark swarm on an air junky. You know the type, 12 Carriers and 5 Zealots. Just drop a Defiler and some hyras into a desparate situaion like in the middle of his base , or if thats too fortified, send em into a real exposed position(keeping the defiler burrowed, ofcourse), then when the army arrives dark swarm FAST and hold position on your hydras and sit back and laugh! Heck while im laughing Ill have my Defiler consume a couple Hydras and and drop some plague. Then Im falling out of my chair!
Remember, Defilers are weak, so protect them, and NEVER subtitute them for a good army of upgraded Hydras.Learn the hotkeys. - Enjoy
Evolution
Make 2 evolution chambers, and evolve as fast as you can. With 2 evolution chambers working you will have better upgraded units. That should help. Also remember to bury Hydralisks or Zerglings at other resource sites. Then attack when your enemy is settling
