Business Hint Number One

Business Hint One: When you are getting ready to start up your own business, understand one vital fact--NO business can survive without some form of advertising. If your business is internet based, then you have a wealth of places to advertise for free. However, understand that most of the people going to those sites are not looking for business opportunities, they are going there to place their OWN ads! Your best bet is to create your own website and then list it with as many search engines as possible. If you need help, email me and let me know--I will help you as much as I can. Offline in the real world, your local newspapers will be an excellent source of advertising. And don't forget your cable provider--they have public access channels that you can advertise on for a very low cost.

Once you have decided on a business, and chosen the best method to advertise, don't forget to check with your local city/county government regarding their laws about home-based businesses. Unfortunately for us, the politicians have decided that people who work from home might just be a huge untapped resource for taxation and licensing. Some places are liberal, while others are getting very aggressive about hunting down people operating ANY kind of business from home. There are several court battles being fought about this issue even now, so find out what your situation is where you live. If you'd like the names of a few business mags that are keeping their eyes on this situation, email me with a request for a list and I'll send you some info ASAP.

Business Hint Number Three

Okay, great! Now you've chosen your business, checked the legalities, decided on the best course of advertising, but who will your customers be? The question may be intimidating at first, but the answer is really very simple. Know your product or service that you are offering, and THAT will tell you who your customers will be. Here's an example. Say you've decided to participate in a Network Marketing organization that sells nutritional products. You would then ask yourself who would use those products? This will naturally lead you to think of health spas, weight loss centers, even your local drug store. The best approach takes time, but getting to know the people who run these places not only makes you a familiar face to them, it also begins to build a sense of trust that will open numerous doors. You will also meet other people along the way that can become prospects for your wonderful products. Remember, though, that if YOU don't believe in your product, no one else will. I'll have more hints on the next page.
