I've been a truck driver for over 15 years and late at night when you've got to get the freight to it's destination, it often gets lonely and tiring moving mile after mile by yourself. Sometimes truckers will use their CB's to tell each other stories or just to talk to keep each other awake and make it not quite so lonely out there. Once in a while, the talk will turn to ghost stories. Of course there's no way of knowing whether any of the stories are true or not. I'd heard the story of the racetrack ghost for years, but I didn't put a lot of faith into it being true until it happened to me one night a few years back. The story always talked about a young woman having been struck and killed by a big rig late one night as she walked home from the racetrack. The driver didn't stop and no one was ever charged in her death. Many a truck driver has told the tale of how late at night as they traveled down that lonely stretch of state road, they'd hear something on the passenger side of the truck, when they looked over, a young woman would be sitting in the seat. She'd look at them, say, "You're not the one", and disappear as suddenly as she had appeared. That's exactly how it happened to me one night. Suddenly she was there, told me I was not the one, and just disappeared. Needless to say, I try to avoid that stretch of road whenever possible. I thought I would have a heart attack before I could get the truck stopped that night.
