Location : Somewhere between D.C. and Boston.
After absorbing all that Jordan had told the group, Leo's mind was in a whirl. Possible extra-terrestrial devices? An interesting prospect, but one fraught with danger. A lot of people will be wanting what Jordan's friend had.
"Where did Tom get the user interface?" Jim asked.
"He says that our old captain mailed it to him one day." Jordan replied. "I always wondered how Sargent Carter was doing. After the project was scrapped, everyone got scattered to the winds."
Leo looked at the AirFone console in front of him and got an idea. "Martin, do you have your laptop with you?"
"Sure do." Martin said with a smile. "Never go anywhere without it."
"Never?" Leo asked with his impish smile. "Anywhere?"
"You know what I mean." Martin said as he deactivated the alarm system on his laptop and handed it to Leo.
"Thanks." Leo said as he hooked up the AirFone phone jack into the laptop modem port. He took out his "magic" card and inserted it into the credit card slot by the phone and hoped that it still worked. The "magic" card was a specially made electronic card that rewrote its track data after every use, billing anything used on that card to several different dummy accounts used by certain Black Ops groups.
[[ NRPG : Now wouldn't we ALL want a card like that to go shopping with??? ]]
Once Leo saw the prompt to dial a number on the AirFone, he went into Martin's communications program and dialed out to the Department of Defense's mainframe number. Although he had left the military, he still had friends scattered throughout the system that had let him keep his old accounts and still allowed him free access to it, knowing that Leo wouldn't abuse the privelege and get them fired.
When Leo got into the mainframe, he activated a special alarm system that he programmed that would let him know if any of the information that he was accessing was being watched by any outside groups.
"Jordan, what was Sargent Carter's first name?" Leo asked.
"I beleive it was David." Jordan answered. "Why?"
"Oh, just checking old databases to see whatever happened to your old captain."
Leo the punched in the query to pull up David Carter's military files. Once it came up on the screen, 2 smaller screens popped up on the lower right-hand portion of the monitor. Both were red, the first just showed a name in it, "TANGO". The second had activated a special traceback feature, which meant that someone outside of Black Ops was also monitoring the file. Within the second box, Leo saw that someone was trying to trace his call and saw that he only had less than 45 seconds to disconnect. When the timer got down to 10 seconds, Leo had already scanned through Carter's files and quickly disconnected.
"This is bad." Leo muttered as he closed up Martin's laptop and handed it back to him.
"What is?" Vanessa asked.
"well, for one, David Carter died in a car accident close to 6 months ago." Leo said. "For another thing, his files at the Pentagon are being watched by two groups of people. One is Black Ops, and the other, I have no idea who it might have been. They were tracing back to me faster than I was to them."
Zenya looked at the rest of the group evenly, "That means that your friend may be in serious danger."
Jordan nodded his head. "And soon, we shall be also...."
