Location : Hard Rock Cafe Parking Complex
MD : Day 1, 14:30
While Martin explained what had just happened to the Boston P.D., Leo took a look over the side of the wall a few inches where the wreckage of the blue Honda now sat. He knew that whoever planted the bomb did a sloppy job and were probably nearby. Checking up and down the street, no sign of the dark Ford were to be seen.
"Of course, that's not to say they haven't already changed cars." Leo thought to himself.
After a while, the questioning seemed to have been winding down and Leo joined Martin in fielding some of the remaining questions the cops had. When they tried to "ask" Leo and Martin to come down to headquarters with them, Leo flashed his badge and explained where they could be reached if further questioning were needed. They then went down to the Avis rental place where they requisitioned a new car.
Location : En Route to Tom's house
MD : Day 1, 15:12
The drive over to Tom's home was fairly uneventful, at least compared to what they had gone through at the Hard Rock. Leo kept looking in the passenger's side mirror to see if anyone was following as Martin wound his way through to Tom's neighborhood.
"Anyone following?" Martin asked, with a glance in the rear-view.
"Not that I'm aware of." Leo answered, with a smile on his face. As they approached the intersection with the road that led to Tom's house, the smile turned to a frown on Leo's face. "Brake, now!"
"What?" Martin looked at Leo with a puzzled look. "We're not even near the intersection yet."
Leo's frown deepened. "Just stop, NOW!"
With that, Martin slammed on the brakes just in time to see a dark blue Chrysler come careening around the corner, nearly taking out the stop sign. As they watched, the car sped on the spot where Leo and Martin would've been if Martin hadn't stopped when he did. Leo watched the car pass by, taking note of the three people inside, all wearing masks of some sort. Leo opened the door and aimed for the rear window of the car, squeezing of 2 shots and watching as the window blew inward. He saw that the person in the back seat suddenly slumped down while the passenger side person ducked. It seemed as though the driver wanted to turn the car around and retaliate, but suddenly thought the better of it and continued to speed off.
"I have the feeling that Zenya and Jim might have had some company." Leo said as he got back into the car.
"Did you get one of them?" Martin asked as he drove the rest of the way to Tom's place.
"I think so." Leo answered, a frown crossing his face as he saw Jim and Zenya making their way back into the house, Zenya rubbing the back of her head.
As they pulled up, Zenya and Jim turned back around, their guns drawn and ready to fire until they recognized Martin and Leo.
"Woah, woah. It's the good guys." Martin laughed as they got out of the car.
"Sorry guys." Zenya replied, reholstering her gun. "We had company."
"Let me guess, three guys in a Chrysler... well, two now." Leo said, looking down the block at another car parked on the street.
Jim looked at Leo with a knowing nod and said, "Yeah, sounds about right. What happened to Tom's car?"
Martin then went on to explain to the others about the explosion and everything else they went through on the way here. As soon as he finished, Zenya went off to the side to call Jordan about all that had happened. Leo continued to watch the car down the street until Zenya's voice brought him back to the here and now.
"We're to meet the rest of them back at the Knight's Rest Motel." Zenya informed the others. "We need to gather some stuff up first."
As they all went in to get what Tom needed, Leo searched the master closet for something he hoped would draw off some of the heat that Jim and Zenya was feeling. A moment later, he found what he was looking for and went down to meet the rest of the agents.
"What's that?" Zenya asked.
"It's what we've come here for, the thing that your visitors left without." Leo said, a mischeivous smile crossing his face. He then opened the empty shoe box while tapping his ears, showing the rest that they were being monitored.
Martin and Zenya looked at Leo as if he had lost his mind while Jim only nodded and said, "So, that's it. I wonder what they would want with it."
Zenya covered her mouth to stifle a giggle, as Martin added, "It must sure be important if a lot of people are looking for it."
Leo shushed Zenya with a poke and said, "Well, Martin and I are gonna find a safe place to put it. You two act as a decoy in case anyone tries to follow us."
Zenya had composed herself by now and said, "Good plan. We'll escort you to the car and take some of this other stuff with us, to throw them off. We'll meet you back at the motel."
Leo closed the empty shoebox and carried it with him as Zenya, Martin, and Jim followed with Tom's stuff. They got into their respective cars and drove off. As Leo and Martin drove back towards Boston, Leo saw that the car that was parked down the street followed them. Leo smiled to himself as he and Martin made their way back.
