NRPG : Don't really know the time needed to fly from Boston to LA and vice versa so here is a rough estimation. Hope its not too far off.
RPG :
Day 2 Boston International Airport
>Time was drifting past slowly, the highlight of which was the worst cup of >coffee he had ever tasted in one of the airport eateries, decaf of course. >At last it was time for a flight call and Jim proceeded to board the plane.
>At the end of an uneventful flight, Jim rented a Taurus (surprise, >surprise!) at the airport and went to the entrance to wait on Vanessa.
He waited for about 15 minutes, his mind almost drifting off, before a familiar voice asked him from behind.
"Hey, good-looking, waiting for someone?"
He turned, and saw his partner with a helium ballon in her hand.
"I was babysitting for this family of five kids on the plane. One of the kids was very grateful." She explained, shaking the bright orange ballon to emphasize her point.
>"OK, Vanessa, where do you want to go today?" he smiled.
>"I think the first thing you should do is pick up some casual clothes," she >said, eyeing him incredulously. "Then we'll head over to the Carter family >home."
>They made a brief stop at a clothes store, Jim returning to Vanessa in a >pair of black jeans and a pale orange shirt. He stood outside the car for a >moment.
>"Will this suit you?"
>"You'll do I suppose," Vanessa smiled. He cleaned up quite nicely, she >thought.
"It even matched the ballon." She added.
>"Alright then, let's go the see the kid."
Torrance
--------
>They arrived at the house of Sgt. Carter's family.
>When they arrived at the door, a young man answered.
>"Mark Carter? We're the F..." but before Jim could finish the sentence the >young man had run towards the back.
>"I'll get him," Jim said as he took off. "Talk to the mother."
Vanessa looked at her partner as he ran after the young man without any word before she turned back at the door again. It was still opened. Double checking the presence of her gun in her holster, she pushed the door wide, and entered.
"Mrs Carter? Is anyone home?"
"Who's that?" A soft voice answered before a figure followed out of the kitchen.
"Mrs Carter? I'm Special Agent Vanessa Lee with the FBI. Can I have a word with you for a moment?" She asked, flashing her badge as evidence.
"FBI?" The woman asked. "Where's Mark?"
"Well, he... he had gone out for a walk with my fellow agent. He'll be fine. Do you have a moment to spare?"
"Yeah, sure. Is it about Mark? Had he got himself into some kind of trouble again?"
"Again?" Vanessa echoed her voice.
"Oh my," Mrs Carter said, as she placed a hand on her forehead. "How rude of me. Please have a seat." She indicated a seat next to Vanessa. Both of them sat down.
Vanessa looked at the woman in front of her. She was in her late thirties, with a gentle looking face and a voice that seemed to indicate that she was not a strict mother.
"Is it about Mark?" She asked again.
"Mrs Carter. Your son, Mark, had recently sent a package to a certain individual. The item in the package was in his late father's possession before he died. We would like to find out why he sent it, or who asked him to send it. Do you have any idea whatsoever?"
"Package? When?"
Vanessa told her.
"I don't know about that. After his father died, Mark was devestated. The two of them were very close, you know, those kind that you only thought existed in the movies, wehre the father and son were more like friends than parent and child. I cannot say that I had been a good mother. Mark had not been really close to me since young. But that death make it worse. He started to hang out late, refuse to answer my questions about his whereabouts. The cops even turned up once about some drugs thing. I was naturally concerned, but what can you do when the other party refused to talk?"
"So you did not know anything about some strange package?"
She shook her head.
"No idea. My late husband did not talk to me much about his stuff too. Sometimes I just wished that I had the strength, the courage to start pushing Mark back to me. But when I see those looks in his eyes, its like seeing a stranger. It makes me feel so sad."
Vanessa reached out and held her hand.
"Mrs Carter. Its not too late. Mark is still young. His father's death is too much for him, but this is when he needed you most. I'm sure that deep inside he loved you, and wanted you to take that step to bridge that gulf. I was young once. I knew that kind of adolescent feeling."
Nice advice you're giving, Vanessa. She told herself silently.
Mrs Carter looked out behind Vanessa.
"They're back." She said.
"So take the first step," Vanessa advised as she led the woman out into the sunshine.
>They went back to the Carter home where Vanessa was just emerging with Mrs. >Carter who seemed very concerned about her son. She rushed him inside and >Vanessa and Jim went to the car.
>After telling her everything, Jim asked Vanessa for the low down on the >mother.
>"Not much to tell. Mark's been through a bad time and has been withdrawn >since his Dad died, but he doesn't talk to her a lot. She doesn't know >anything."
>So the two agents headed back for Boston, only a little wiser, but with too >many questions unanswered.
>(Day 2, 11:45pm, The front porch of the cabin)
>"This means you can go back home with us, in the morning," he said and >kissed Emily.
After Martin released Emily, he was rather surprised to see two person standing in front of them, amusement on their face.
"So I have to presume that I miss out on all the fun?" Vanessa asked.
"I guess so," Martin answered, so happy to get Emily back that he did not mind the intrusion into their romantic moment. "Let me introduce. This is Emily. Emily, this is Special Agent Vanessa Lee and Special Agent Jim Reaper."
After the brief introductions, they went back into the cabin, and Jim and Vanessa were updated on the events.
"You mean that very same government which we voted for?" Vanessa asked when they reached that part about wanting Emily back in Isarel for the exchange.
"Sorry to disappoint you, but it is the same government." Jordan informed her.
SHe swore with the name of a certain higher entity. "I don't believe this."
"But I just recieved some good news. Emily do not have to go back." Martin told them.
"Well, that's good news. And I think that's enough for everyone too. Why don't everyone go back to sleep and we'll talk again tommorrow?" Jordan suggested.
THe rest of them agreed, and it was the end of that night.
