Mission2

Lining up for the snap

(Day 1, 8:30am, Team Zulu office) >The telephone rang and Jim answered it, and turned on the speaker >phone.

>"Everyone, we have a new mission, of sorts", Jordan said. >"Can't explain now, but it's damn important and I need you >all at the airport as soon as you can get home and ready. I'll get >Jenny to organise the tickets when I get there. Now, go on, and >I'll see you for take off."

>"No rest for the wicked," Jim said and left the office.

>Zenya nodded to Martin. "See you at the airport," she said, and she, >too, left the office to go home and pack.

"See you!", Martin said as both Jim and Zenya left the office.

He returned to his desk, punched a key on his laptop and closed it. The key activated a very loud and effective alarm system. If anyone opened the laptop, they had 20 seconds to punch in the correct password*, before a siren went off. The whole system would lock up 20 seconds after that. Martin placed the computer in it's leather briefcase and went home to pack.

----
(Martin's apartment, 25 minutes later)

Martin didn't feel comfortable with silence, so he immeditely turned on the stereo when he got home. He laid out some clothes, a razor, a toothbrush and some other miscellaneous items on the bed. Then he unlocked his bedside table and took out a 9mm Baretta. It wasn't FBI Standard Issue, but it was an easily manageable handgun, perfectly suited for Martin. Besides, Martin figured that any gun used by Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon, couldn't be all bad. Martin tried on the shoulder holster. Despite 15 weeks of training at Quantico, Martin had never gotten used to wearing a sidearm. Working for the IRS, there was no call for weapons. In the end, he settled for a belt clip holster instead.

Martin, uneasy with leaving his car at the ariport, called a cab and started packing. Emily would have frowned, had she seen the way he packed, but as long as everything fit in the bag, Martin was satisfied. "I wonder how Emily is doing?", Martin thought, and his mind drifted away. The honking of a car horn brought him back to reality. He opted to take the laptop with him, but realized that the Nokia 9000i Communicator (pocket computer / cell phone) would be sufficient for his needs. He turned on the home alarm and went down to the waiting cab.

"Dulles Int'l Airport, please, and step on it!", he said to the cabbie. Martin wasn't really in a hurry, but he was a sucker for speed.

At the airport, he found that Jordan, Jim and Zenya was already there, waiting.

Kind Regards,

Krister Persson
