Mission 4

Making plans

by Alton Reich

> When all were sitting comfortably, Jordan began his tail. Of course, > everyone knew such experiments went on, but each revelation sickened to the > pit of the stomach. Jim, however, pulled out his evidence bag.

> He explained his findings at the tunnel and passed around the hair and > nail/claw.

> "You're saying you think we're dealing with a *human*?! I find that hard to > believe," Jordan said.

> "So do I Chief. Besides, I don't know if it's human or not. I do know that > these things have certain human characteristics. Maybe the scientists these > days don't have the hang-ups of old."

> "Are we considering a plot by the military to produce a half-human hybrid?" > Zenya asked. "Even if it were possible, how would it get to the subway?"

> "A trial," Leo suggested. "Let it loose, see what it can do. Either that or, > as usual, they didn't realize what they were dealing with and it escaped."

> "This is all pure conjecture people," Jordan interjected. "We have no proof > of anything."

> Leo brought his evidence into play.

> "Well, let's put it this way," Jim said, "whatever's down there is bigger, > stronger and faster than a man and it kills without weapons. Whatever it or > *they* are, we have to find out."

"Well," Jordan said, "I'm planning to go right to the source."

"Brookhaven?" Jim asked.

"Yeah," Jordan responded, "Leo I'm assuming you're heading back into the tunnels tomorrow."

"Am I getting that obvious?" Leo asked innocently.

Jordan nodded, "I'm getting to know your tastes in danger. Jim, would you mind going with him? I'm thinking that the two of you and your usual collection of weapons would be a good idea."

"No problem, Chief," Jim said.

"I'd like to go, too," Zenya said.

"I'm not sure that would be a good idea," Leo said quickly.

"I'm not sure I agree," Jordan interrupted before Zenya could flog Leo, "Zenya's background gives her the best chance of getting inside these thing's psyche."

"I appreciate your confidence, but I'm not sure I'll succeed," Zenya said.

"I know you'll do your best. Vanessa, I'd like you to join me. Martin do you have plans for tomorrow?" Jordan asked.

[Krister: I'm leaving it open for Martin to go with Jordan, or Leo, or go review some autopsy reports and really get himself in trouble.]

*** [The Following Morning]

Traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge was a nightmare. Fortunately most of that nightmare was headed in the other direction. Traffic got much worse once the agents got into the heart of Brooklyn, but eased again once they got onto Long Island.

"I don't think I could ever live here," Jordan said.

"New York has more atr and culture than any other city in the world," Vanessa pointed out.

"There's also a lot more traffic."

Jordan got off the highway and soon pulled up to the gate at Brookhaven. He flashed his ID to the guard at the gate who directed him to the visitor parking lot. Jordan found a space and got out. He looked around and decided that Brookhaven looked as much like a college campus as anything else.

"Let's see if we can find someone from their biology department. I think I'd like the grand tour," Jordan said.

NRPG:

This was the post that wouldn't get finished. That happens to me sometimes and it sucks.

Krister: I didn't mention Martin, but he might be their. Your call.

Sau Woon: Will htey run into Professor Kleinberg?
