nrpg : these 2 weeks were filled with Y2K issues, chinese new year and helping my boyfriend pack his stuff (he just left for australia to further his studies two hours ago) - busy!
just a short one for vanessa's condition
rpg :
It was more than two hours after Vanessa was admitted to the hospital that Jim was allowed to see her. The doctor had briefly mentioned her condition to him and then walked away in distaste, as if he was responsible for her current state. Jim looked after the doctor, wanting to strangle some life out of him for labelling him the 'bad guy', but decided against it. No use wasting his effort. He got some lecturing to do first.
When he opened the door to the room, Vanessa was seated up right. Her face was pale and her hair messy. Jim chided himself for not realising what was wrong all along when he was unable to find a wound caused by the beast. She was acting strangly recently too, he thought to himself. I should have known.
The doctor had mentioned that the patient did not know of her condition, and had warn Jim against making her upset. However, even before he could open his mouth to say anything, Vanessa spoke.
"I lost the baby." She told him matter-of-factly.
Jim looked at her, jaws slightly dropped. She had sounded so clinical.
"You know."
"Its my body, of course I know."
There was a slight pause as Jim recollected his thoughts. He had wanted to scold her for endangering her life, for endangering the baby's life, and for endangering the whole operation. But all he could say was,
"How can you be so silly?"
"I'm not silly, Jim. I know what I am doing. I had intended to inform Jordan regaring my pregnancy after this mission, and to take a break. I assumed that is not needed now."
Jim stood next to the bed.
"Well, when did you know ... that you are pregnant?"
"I only found out two hours before we met at the airport. Jim, do you intend to tell Jordan about this?"
Jim thought for a while. He had not thought about that.
"Well, I guess he ought to know, him being the team leader. However, if you want, I am sure that Jordan will not let the rest of the team know. It is your privacy afterall."
Vanessa gave a little smile.
"Will you do that, Jim?"
"I guess so... look, why don't you take a rest now. Jordan is coming soon, and I will talk to him regarding all this. Will that do?"
"Yes, that will be great, Jim. Thanks alot."
"You're welcome."
Jim left the room, letting the door closed gently behind him. As he looked back into the room through the glass, he saw Vanessa still seated there. She was not crying.
