In 2371, shortly after Bethel set course for the Alpha Quadrant, in [Parallax], Janeway volunteered Kes (as it was her idea) to convert a cargo bay into an airponics bay. This assisted in conserving valuable replicator power supplies by providing fresh food for Neelix to cook in the galley to serve to the crew.
