The T-Virus was, inadvertently created by a microbiologist working for Umbrella. That microbiologist, Dr.James Darius, created, along with his wife, a pharmacologist, a tissue-repair synthesis. Having benevolent intentions for such a wonderful
drug, the Darius' took their creation to the Umbrella executives. Umbrella quickly realized that they would stand to loose a great deal of money if this drug were released, but made plans for it's military use. Umbrella seized the virus and all the papers on it,
and turned them over to a brilliant teenaged scientist by the name of William Birkin. Dr. Darius, his wife, and the three assistants who had aided in creating the synthesis, were killed in an 'accidental' fire.
Dr.Birkin and his lab became known as White Umbrella, devoted wholly to the military application of the Darius' virus, which Birkin renamed, the T-Virus.

  Zombies :
The most common example of White Umbrella's work, are humans who are exposed
to the T-Virus. These sad individuals often have no idea that they have been infected,
and have little idea of what's happening when the changes begin. An exposed individual will begin showing signs of infection
in 24 hours.

The earliest signs are severe itching
followed, after another 24 hours, by swelling, and feelings of exhaustion. After another 24 hours, the swelling grows worse, and is accompanied by blistering. Another day, and the feeling grows worse, and the carrier's entire body
begins to itch, and they begin to feel very feverish. Finally, rational thought becomes difficult, and the body's soft tissue begins to deteriorate more rapidly.
The entire process finishes out in about a week's time, wherein the victim looses all rational thought, becomes impervious to pain, and wishes only to feed a hunger
for raw flesh. At this point, they cease being human and are very much one of the living dead.
The Virus also seems to be capable of infecting, and likewise, animating, the bodies of those who are exposed to it shortly after death.
This was apparent in the spill that turned most of Raccoon City's citizens into zombies. Apparently, if a living creatures is killed by, or in close proximity to, a vector for the Virus, they change within hours, or even miuntes of expiration.
Not all of the human infestation was coincidental. Many of the early testing of the T-Virus was conducted on human subjects. Dr.Nicolas Griffith, the insane White Umbrella bioscientist who took contro of the facility
at Cailiban Cove, Maine, further perfected the work of Dr.William Birkin's virus, creating a strain that could yeild results in a matter of minutes. Dr.Griffith found means of keeping these advanced prototypes from decomposing so rapidly,
and was even able to train them to function in armed trios called Trisquads. Dr.Griffith's advanced virus was never recovered by Umbrella, it's secret dying, along with Dr.Griffith, during a S.T.A.R.S raid on the Caliban Cove facility.
The Cerberus and the Ma7 : The Cerberus represent one of the first and most effective combat applications of the T-Virus. These creatures most closely resemble a skinned Doberman. Big, but lean and fast, these ferocious creatures travel and hunt in packs that are easily
capable of tearing an unsuspecting human to pieces. Even a wary, and armed, individual, would do well to take care when Cerberus are present, as many of the S.T.A.R.S can vouch. Cerberus are very aggressive, attacking without provocation, and will even leap over fences and through windows to get at their prey.
The Ma7s were a semi-failed experiment at the Caliban Cove facility. They resembled the Cerberus only in their canine shape. Where the Cerberus is powerful and lean, the Ma7s were squat and broad with dune colored fur, and cat-eyed, razor-toothed snake heads. As stated, these patchwork creatures were apparently only
present at the Caliban Cove facility. The Ma7s were pieced together, almost exclusively, by Dr. Louis Thurman. When they were found to be uncontrollable, Dr.Thurman spent the rest of his short life placing blame on his assistants. He continued to do so, up until he was infected by Dr.Griffith's advanced virus and made into a mindless serviator.
The Ma2-Chimera : The Chimera was also called the mesh monkey, or the lab monster. The Chimera appear something akin to a mundane monkey, small, lithe, and quick. That is, however, where the similarities cease.
They are best know for scutting along ceilings and striking at exposed heads with their scythe-like claw when an unsuspecting individual would walk below them.
The Ma2s haunted the power room of the Spencer Estate, liking the dark environment, and the grated ceilings that allowed them to scurry along with ease. They power room Chimera are suspected to have been responsable for the death of Captain Albert Wesker, the S.T.A.R.S turncoat who lead so many of his men to their
dooms within the dark recesses of the Spencer Estate. Captain Wesker apparetnly stumbled into the power room after he had been previously subdued by the other S.T.A.R.S, Barry Burton, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Rebecca Chambers. Groggy from a blow to the back of the head, Wesker forgot he had been unarmed, and was attacked and killed by
an Ma2 Chimera. The true irony of this, is that Captain Wesker helped design the mesh monkeies. Despite thier small size, and relative frailty to firearms, the Chimera should never be underestimated.
The 121 and 3K-The Hunters : The 121s, more commonly called Hunters, confronted the S.T.A.R.S in the Spencer Estate. These reptillian creatures stood over six feet tall, could leap and move very quickly, had claws that could rend flesh and bone, and could absorb an incredible amount of punishment before going down.
Jill Valentine emptied an entire 15 round clip of 9mm semi-jacketed hollow-points into one before it went down. Barry Burton caught one in the head at point-blank range with his .357 Magnum Colt Python. But where any other creature would have been decapitated by such a shot, the creature went down and continued to flop for a minute or more, still intact.
The Hunters communicate by a loud, piercing scream, and hunt more by smell than sight. The most recent attempt made by S.T.A.R.S to bring down Umbrella, took them to a specimen testing facility in Utah. While inside, John Andrews and Leon Kennedy were confronted with a newer version of the Hunter. The 3K. The 3Ks topped off over seven feet tall, but still had the stunning speed, and agility of their predecessors.
However, what made the 3Ks more dangerous, was the chameleon-like ability to blend into any surrounding, even while moving. The two S.T.A.R.S only managed to kill one of the 3Ks, and that was after it had been stunned by a burst of light, and their weapon was pressed against the creatures head. These creatures are one of the most successful examples of White Umbrella's attempt at making living weapons.
The Re3-The Licker : The Re3 first made their appearance during the debacle in Raccoon City. Both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield had more than their share of encounters with this skinless monstrosity. The Re3 bares some similarities to the Ma2 Chimera, in that it
often walks across ceilings and walls, and strikes at it's prey when they least expect it. It's primary weapons are it's formidible claws, though it's tongue has some menacing qualities of it's own. The abnormally long appendage constantly protrudes from it's mouth, seeming to have a mind of it's own, hence it's nickname. The Licker.
The Lickers are skinless, and move sinuously, as though they have no solid bones. Despite their exposed and oversized brain, which makes an ideal target for an astute marksman, the Lickers are terrible adversaries capable of ripping a human to shreds.
The Neptune :The Neptune was the result of T-Virus experimentation on a Great White Shark. The Neptune was being stored in a huge tank in the underground lab of the Spencer Estate. When the outbreak first occured there, an infected lab worker shattered the tank, filling the basement with water and letting the Neptune swim free. The Neptune was very similar to a regular white shark, save that it was abnormally aggressive.
Plant 42 :T-Virus experimentations on plants at Lab 42 at the Spencer Estate resulted in the creation of this creature. The real trouble started when the outbreak occurred, and the basement level was flooded with water carrying traces of the T-Virus. Plant 42 sunk a root into the basement, and began to change. It became sentient, and carnivorous. When living creatures moved too close, it would attack with
constricting feelers, and then drain them of blood. Several White Umbrella scientist were killed by Plant 42 after it's mutation. It was destroyed by the S.T.A.R.S during their desperate fight in the Spencer Estate
Crows :These huge, carnivorous birds could possibly be another accidental T-Virus offspring, but their presence as guardians over one of the many puzzles in the Spencer Estate seems to dictate otherwise. These large, black scavengers were singularly responsable for the death of Forest Speyer, one of the S.T.A.R.S Bravos who made the initial run on the Spencer Estate. Keeping that in mind, whether the crows were an intentional or accidental creation, they are a deadly one.
The Snake : Once again, it's uncertain whether or not this monstrous reptile was an intentional creation, or just another common creature caught in the T-Virus outbreak at the Spencer Estate. Either way, the huge, incalculably venomous reptile killed Richard Aiken, another of the S.T.A.R.S Bravos. It nearly took Chris Redfield, a S.T.A.R.S Alpha, as well, but got a 9mm hollow point through it's right eye instead.
The WebSpinners :These appear to be normal spiders, save that they are roughly the size of a VW Bug, no pun intended. Despite their size and aggressiveness, they posed little threat to the S.T.A.R.S who were confronted by them, leading me to to believe that the Webspinners were an inadvertant result of the T-Virus outbreak.
Av1-Dacs :One of the new specimens that were being tested at Planet, the Av1s were called Dacs by their handlers.
So called because of their resemblance to the pteradactyl, the Av1 had huge, leathery wings that spanned 8-10 feet, and a flat, narrow skull tipped with a sharp-toothed beak.
The Dacs were being tested in the Planet's simulated forest, and proved to be exceddingly fragile to gunfire.
Ar12-Scorps :Another creature bing tested at Planet, the Ar12s were huge scorpions being tested in an artificial desert. The Ar12s stood about 3 feet high, and were over six feet in length. Possessing the usual claws and venomous stinger
of a mundane scorpion, the Ar12s also possessed a strange defensive capability. When their exoskeleton was punctured, they bleed a thick, white ichor that sealed the wound shut. This amazing capability proved useless against one of the S.T.A.R.S's M68 AP grenades.
Ca6-Spitters :The Ca6s were the third of four new designs being tested at Planet. Called Spitters by their handlers, these odd, patchwork creatures lived up to their names. They were quadrapedes, with cloven hooves like a goat's. Their heads were frog-like,
but with a protruding jaw, similar to a bulldog's, lined with long sharp teeth. The entire body was covered with dull scales, the color of dried blood. Their nickname was derived from their ability to spit a thick, reddish-brown goo that was highly toxic to organic tissue. The Spitters were being
tested in a mountainous environment, and could maneuver up and down steep terrain with ease.
The Tyrant :The Tyrant Mark 1 was the crowning achievment of the Spencer Estate Lab. A perfect biological weapon capable of surviving all but the most extreme structural damage. The Tyrant project was delayed, obviously, by the conversion of it's creators into flesh-eating zombies. However, when it was mistakenly brought to life by the S.T.A.R.S, it could well have been the end of them all had not their cowardly pilot, Brad Vikers, happen to come into view in time to toss down a quad-rocket launcher. Not even the Tyrant could stand up to that abuse, and the S.T.A.R.S escaped from it, and the Spencer Estate before it exploded. The death, or rather, destruction, of the Tyrant Mark 1 was not the end of the Tyrant series. It only harolded the beginning.
Originally Umbrella had decided to scrap the project after the spill at the Spencer Estate, but something changed their minds. The reserach into the Tyrant series continued.
Tyrant Series 103-Mr.X :The next step in the Tyrant series was a better controlled, damn-near indestructable creature clad in a green-grey trench coat. The creature had been sent by Umbrella to retrieve the samples of Dr. Birkin's advanced work. The G-Virus. One of the samples was lost to Umbrella, in that Birkin had injected himself with it. But the other, it was inside of a small locket that Birkin's wife had placed around the neck of their daughter, Sherry. Sherry had fallen in with Claire Redfield during the outbreak in Raccoon City, and the two desperately tried to escape from Mr.X. The juggernaut walked through everything to get them, or, more specifically, the locket Sherry wore. Finally realizing what it really wanted, Claire took the locket and hurled it into a vat of molten iron, into which Mr.X blindly followed.
Terrified and dismayed, Claire and Sherry watched Mr.X rise again from the molten pool, seeking to destry those who had costs it it's mission. Claire would surely have been killed had not some mysterious benefactor tossed her an assualt riffle. Under the heavy automatic fire, Mr.X was sheared in half at the waist and left to burn in the fires that would come with the Umbrella lab's destruction.
ReH1a Tyrant Series-Fossil :The most recent addition to the Tyrant series was, yet again, a failed project insofar as military applications. Called Fossil,
because of it's dinosaur-like appearance, the newest Tyrant was too primative to be of any use. Thinking much like the dinosaur it resembled, Fossil's only desire was to feed an endless hunger brought on by it's incredibly high metabolic rate. Fossil had been sent to
the Utah specimen training facility for disection, but the two S.T.A.R.S inside, John Andrews and Leon Kennedy, activated the creature during their escape. Thinking that releasing the monster would be an efficient, and poetic, means of destroying Planet, they too were nearly killed by the beast, having not taken into mind the ferocity of Fossil.
Fossil was never reported killed, but it was trapped in the underground Utah facility. It can only be assumed that either Umbrella came in and cleaned up the site, killing or retrapping Fossil, or that it starved to death once it ran out of food.
William Birkin-G-Virus Phase 1 :In A last ditch attempt to keep Umbrella from getting his new G-Virus, Dr.William Birkin injected himself with the sample, even as he lay dying from Umbrella gun-fire. The Virus quickly altered Birkin, saving his life, but changing him into something horrible to behold.
