The Mirror, above, represents human consciousness, as it
pertains to the individual personality.  This chart may be
used when laying the Tarot Cards out for interpretation.

The chart is divided into three levels:
                        Material/Physical level (bottom)
                               Astral/Moral     "    (middle)
                                   Instinctive     "    (top)
The Material level represents the conscious mind, the
daily/waking mind; the part of the personality that is best
    known to the individual.

    The Moral level blends the upper and lower levels;
between the individual's instinctive, primal self and the
laws that govern one's daily life.  This is the level of
    illusion and reality, thoughts, inner-dialogue,
    the dream state.

To a spiritualist the Instinctive level could be the higher self
and to a psychologist it could be considered the
unconscious.  The Instinctive level is the part of the
personality that is likely to be least known to the individual.

The Instinctive level ranges from 12 to 17 and from 13 to
    14, encompassing numbers 1, 2 and 11.  Numbers 3 and 4
border the Astral and Instinctive levels, as do 13, 14, and
    17.  7, 8, 17, 18 and 19 border the Astral and Physical
    levels.  Numbers 5, 6, 15, 16 and 17 are midway of the
    Astral level.
