The traditional
Tarot Deck consists of 78 cards,
which may be divided into 2 groups.
22 Major Cards
&
56 Minor Cards
52 of the Tarot's Minor Deck
are those bastardized to make the
52 Playing Cards.
The 4 suits used for the Playing Cards
are similar to those of the Tarot Deck
as they symbolically represent the same principles.
The Tarot's Minor Deck has
16 Face (or Court) Cards.
King, Queen, Knight, & Page
across the 4 suits.
It may be the Knight and Page
were combined to create the Jack
for the Playing Deck,
leaving 52 Minor Cards.
The
22 Major Cards
are traditionally numbered
0 -21
and titled.
Of the Tarot's Major Cards,
the Fool
was the only card to be carried over to the Playing Deck,
being called the Joker.
As the Joker is the Wild Card of the Playing Card Deck,
the Fool is the trump card of the Tarot.
