"Nick." she whispered. "Nick, you're headed in the wrong direction."
Kalaya got out of the bed and got dressed. Derek Rayne was sitting at the table looking over some paperwork when Kalaya came downstairs with a luggage bag.
"Where are you going, Kalaya?" he asked.
"Toronto." said Kalaya.
"Toronto, Ontario?" said Derek. "Hmm but not right now."
"Why not?" asked Kalaya.
Derek looked at Kalaya in disbelief. "There's a lightening storm out there." said Derek. "Can't you wait until it's over so you can go?"
Kalaya sighed. "You're right. I'm sorry."
Derek smiled. "That's alright. Why don't you grab yourself some breakfast?"
Kalaya shrugged. "Sure why not?"
Kalaya and Derek were deep in conversation when the thunderstorm ended and the sunlight came out.
"I wish you would tell me what's wrong." Derek said. "Perhaps I could help."
"The only thing I can tell you is that it involves vampires." said Kalaya.
"Vampires!" said Derek. "You must not go alone. I'll get someone to go with you."
"Must I?" asked Kalaya.
"You must not. Sorry, Kalaya, but I am concerned for your safety. Nick will go with you." said Derek.
"Ok. I don't see a problem with it." lied Kalaya.
"Nick." said Derek.
"Yes, Derek." said Nick.
"I've got a mission for you but only Kalaya and time would tell you." said Derek.
"What am I supposed to do?" Nick wanted to know.
"Come with Kalaya to Toronto, Ontario. It got something to do with vampires." said Derek.
"Vampires!" said Nick. "Sounds serious."
"I'm afraid so." said Derek.
"I'll get ready." replied Nick.
In 30 minutes, Nick was waiting downstairs while Kalaya got the tickets and they left the house together.
"Are you going to tell me what's going on or do I have to wait until just the right moment?" asked Nick.
Kalaya sighed. "You know it's about vampires, right?" asked Kalaya.
"Right." said Nick.
"Well, it got something to do with an old friend of mine who happened to be a vampire." said Kalaya.
"Kalaya! And you didn't tell us?" said Nick.
"No because I thought it would be unwise." said Kalaya. She remembered when Alex was drawn into the vampire world.
"I wish you told us.." said Nick.
"Not all vampires are evil, Nick...Something bad will happen, Nick." said Kalaya. "And it's only the matter of time before I stop it from happening!"
He finished with his radio show and came up to Kalaya and Nick.
"What's your name this time, Legacy?" asked LaCroix.
"LaCroix.." said Kalaya. "It's Kalaya.. Kalaya Moriarty."
"Ahh... As lovely to see you." said LaCroix. "And who is this gentleman with you?"
"This is Nick," said Kalaya. "He works with
me at Luna Foundation."
Kalaya came closer. "Where is Nick, LaCroix?"
asked Kalaya.
"Why, what do you want to do with him?" LaCroix said.
"I got something to say to him." replied Kalaya.
"I see." said LaCroix. "Well, you may find him at the police station or he may come in here sometimes."
Sometimes. Kalaya thought.
LaCroix smiled slyly and Kalaya didn't like that smile.
"How about where he lives?" asked Kalaya.
"I'm not so sure you should know this." chuckled LaCroix.
Kalaya studied LaCroix for a moment. Nick tensed, not sure of what was going on. "Ok I got it." said Kalaya.
LaCroix blinked. "What?" he asked.
Kalaya chuckled. "Never keep a secret from Legacy." she said.
Kalaya was still chuckling when Nick and she left the club.
