I get numerous letters from 63 (and other)
owners and Mopar fans in general
Here are a few of the comments I have received
I read your "historical notes". For quite sometime
now (years) I have been trying to find info on the exhibition
cars that made an appearance in 1964, known as the Dodge 'CHARGERS'.
Your article mentions these 2 cars in the very last paragraph.
I was beginning to wonder whether the actual existance of the
cars was maybe some kind of a figment of my imagination. But
back in the spring of `64, a red white and blue, with blown
injected hemi 426, came to my high school in So. Calif. It's
driver was a young fellow named Charlie Allen, He fired that big
beautiful beast up right there on my very own campus, and absolutely
made the hair on my head stand straight up, and if that wasn't enough,
he then put that GORGEOUS monster in reverse, backed up a few yards,
and did a about 4 burnouts, holy shit, right there in front
of my great big wide teen-age eyes! I WAS HOOKED FROM THAT MOMENT
ON!!! My greatest wish, would be to someday build a clone of
that car. Anyway, after all these years,
yours was the only article that ever made mention of the existance
of any of thse FX cars. They were probably the first to be designated
FX, for "factory experimental". And I have never heard
the name Charlie Allen again since. If you
have, or know of any place that I can find any info on him and
these cars, could you PLEASE let me know.I would like to know what
ever happened to the man that started my love of drag racing (C.
Allen). And I would be most pleased to find any info on the
actual specs and diagrams of these fabulous cars. I've always
said that I believe those cars were the great grand parents
of today's Funny Cars. with regards, Bruce Beaven |

I have
deleted the pages in question on the left...
There wasn't much,
just production figures and options for the 1964 Dodges
so that you could compare the differences between the
years
And some info on
the 63 Plymouths
I guess you will
have to find that info elsewhere on the web
Or buy the book

Hello Bruce, Love your site. Pleased to see pics of my car which is still going well.
Regards, Peter Mears |
I just found your website. Never figured anyone would have
this much information on the 880. I have one that has 39,413
miles on it, actual seat covers, carpet....everything on the inside
of the car is original. Thanks for the info. When I get more
time I'll explore your website more. Oh...I have searched high
and low for a magazine add. What magazine did you find
that one? Thanks Mark Zachary (1963

I really enjoyed your wonderful presentation of the
Max Wedge MoPars! I am going to add a link to your page on
mine, www.race-hemi-max-wedge.com |
I as a kid spent a lot of time in the back of my Mom's tan 880
wagon It had the dual A/C and we travelled quite a bit of the country.
Yes I am still a MoPar fan and own another wagon a 60 Polara wagon
you can see on the 60 Dodge home page. Anyway great site great year!! |
Hi, Just
thought I'd drop you a note to tell you how much I appreciated your
"63 Dodge website! I have
owned 2 of these cars. The first was an original, steel, 330,
Max-wedge car, which I sold back in '81 and am told that Galen Govier
just recently purchased. The second is a Blk / Red 440 car
which I now have up for sale & can be seen at racer-net.com
(NHRA bracket racer category). I
love the fact that these cars always seem to be the black sheep
of the '63-'65 family of MoPars. Personally, I think that
these were the best looking cars of that whole group! If
you or anyone you know might be interested in purchasing my '63
please let me know. I have a tube chassis, Dodge Daytona on
the way. (momma say's I can't have 2 race cars!) I also have
another '63 330 car in the beginning stages of resto. |
Outstanding web page! I printed all of it, and while I
already know all the information, your pictures were great!
I own the 63 Plymouth Savoy Max Wedge featured, and on the cover
of the March, 1999 issue of High Performance MoPar Magazine (check
out their website; the entire article is there with photos, but
with the April issue out now, it's a back-issue feature. Keep
up the good work! Gary Perkins in California |
I have the revised parts Chrysler Canada catalogue
you have was published in December, 1962, and it shows Chrysler
Canada did offer the 383-cid V8, but not the 361-V8 in both Plymouth
and Dodge models. Thus the prefix TV-HP is for the 383-V8,
not the 361-V8. Chrysler Canada did not offer the 426 Ramcharger
in any vehicle it built in Canada. As the market in Canada
was roughly 10% of the American market, Chrysler felt there just
wasn't the volume to justify it. When the Autopact agreement
between U.S. and Canada came into effect during 1965, Chrysler could
then import the B-body models from Detroit, Hemis and all. (The
Coronet was not sold in Canada in 1965). The Canadian 1963
(and 1964) Valiant was basically a Dodge Dart from the door post
back, with a Valiant front end, Valiant dash and interiors, with
trim that was a combination of Dart and Valiant items to give a
Valiant appearance. The Canadian dealership arrangement was
Plymouth-Chrysler-Valiant-Fargo Trucks and Dodge-Chrysler-Valiant-Dodge
Trucks. The Imperial was sold by the largest Plymouth and
Dodge dealers in urban centers. The Canadian-built
Dodge, by the way, used Plymouth dashboards and interiors. Thus
the Dodge 220 was trimmed like a Plymouth Savoy, the Dodge 330 similar
to the Plymouth Belvedere and the Dodge 440 was like a Plymouth
Fury. The Sport Fury buckets and console was offered as an
option on 440 hardtops and convertibles. 1963 was
also the first year Chrysler Canada built convertibles in Canada
(1969 the last). Previously all convertibles were imported
from Detroit. Chrysler Canada built Valiant Signet, Plymouth
Fury, Dodge 440 and Chrysler Windsor convertibles in Canada for
1963 and imported Chrysler 300 and Imperial Crown convertibles.
The Plymouth Sport Fury, Dodge Dart (170, 270, GT), Polara,
Polara 500, 880 and Custom 880 were neither built nor sold in Canada. |
Hi Bruce. I'm flabbergasted that someone as
far away as you are is aware of my car. Thanks for the comment.
Aren't computers great? By the way, you're car and story
were one of the first I accessed when we got our computer last year.
I made every body come over and take a look. Wow! You
saved a car that we wouldn't have even thought about. Way
too rough when even the roof is questionable. It really came
out pretty. It must be quite a challenge finding parts way
down there. |
Hey Bruce that's a fine ride you have there. What
are you? Some kind of Dodge nut. I really enjoyed reading your
page. It is very well done. I also have a 63 Polara,but it's a500.
I'm sure you've seen it on the Houston MoPar Connection Club page.
I was lucky ,as mine was in a better shape than you started with.
I did'nt have to work as hard, cause I did'nt have the rust problems
you had, But your car looks as good or better than mine. Which engine
and transmission has your car got? I'll bet parts are a big problem
in New Zealand. They are hard enough to find here. Anytime your
looking for something let me know and I'll try to help. I'm always
looking for NOS parts. When you own one of these you can't own enough
spare parts. You know what I mean. anyway ,good to see another saved
63 survivor. Jimmy Peavy |
