conto GENERAL MANAGER
& ANNOUNCER One of the world's fastest
talking men -Bob Conto - describes the daredevil antics of
the JACK KOCHMAN Hell Drivers. Conto, a former radio-television
announcer, adds the "Seasoning" to the performance. Like
a good cook, Conto spices the thrilling track events with colorful
descriptive word pictures. His staccato delivery, ringing out with
the clarity of the professional elocutionist, keeps pace with the
50-mile per hour events. The creaking, careening,
crashing of the vehicles and the feelings of the men who man them
are sparked through the air by Conto. His descriptive phrases are
reporting, not imagina-tion. In the winter training periods it is
Canto's job, accepted reluctantly at times, he says, to ride with
the drivers when new stunts are perfected. Conto, who is also general
manager of the thrilling raceway production, this year, was featured
on audio-fidelity stereophonic recordings as ace commentator. |

seven
highway safety questions |
1. How do you bring a car out of a skid? |
|
A. Turn the wheel in the direction the rear of the car
is skidding, and step on the gas. |
2. How do you make an emergency stop? |
A. Brake down to 15 mph, hitting brake at least three
times, before releasing the clutch. |
|
3. How do you recover from entering a curve too fast? |
A. Keep left foot on brake, right foot on gas, depressing
brake slightly and applying gas throughout the curve. |

A. No matter how fast you're going, step on gas to bring
the car out of its swerve, then slow gradually. |
|
6. Where would you put your best tires, front or rear? |
A. Best tires on rear, since a rear tire blowout is more
serious. |
|
7. If your car flips, do you turn off the ignition? |
A. No. In an accident, keep motor running, as this prevents
fires by the motor using up oxygen. |
