All this sounds bad but the car was an original,
clean, unmolested unit with no accident damage and no evidence of having any
previous repairs to the body or drive train. As damage to engines can occur
just from sitting for long periods, I was happy to learn that the engine had
been started and run to warm it up every few months while it was sitting for
the 15 years.
I spent about three day's stripping off all
the chrome trim, bumpers, seats, door panels, hood lining, door glass and regulators,
lights, wiring and any other bits and pieces that I could find that would come
off. I left all the running gear and dash board in so that I could still drive
it while doing the restoration work
The car went down to a painter who sanded the body down to bare metal and sprayed
it with a "Glasurit" primer/sealer.
