The Emperor, now in full battle armor and carrying a monstrous battleaxe
reappears in the throne room. He sees a clanking tank rushing off at full
speed some distance away in a path of wrecked walls. "HEY!!!" He shouts
at the top of his lungs. "GET THE HELL BACK HERE!!" Running after dissapearing
tank and waving battleaxe overhead. "COME OUT AND FIGHT LIKE A CRAZED LUNATIC!!!"
Meanwhile, unnoticed in a dark corner of the throneroom, a photon torpedo
counts down...

Out past the orbit of Neptune, empty space suddenly distorts, and
two ships appear. The SSD, confused by the sudden transition, nevertheless
continues to pound on the Interdictor. Completely outclassed, the Interdictor
shields begin to overload. Realizing that in this instance, an interdiction
field is completely counter to her needs, Savannah hits the emergency cutoff,
and does a blind hyperjump to safety. The SSD, now alone in deep space,
stands down. The remaining senior officers turn to their admiral, but she
merely sits there in teh command chair with a permanently fixed scowl.
Not daring to incurr her wrath, they wait for orders...

The fleet battles against fire from Xanarius, who formerly comprised
a third of their force. They are as well under long range assault from
both Panchik and the Slicer. Seeing an advantage against the long recharge
times required by the damaged ship, a strike team of half a dozen ships
hyperjumps to the rear of the Slicer and opens up with a full broadside
against its engines. Once, twice, and on the third salvo the heavily battered
ship veers off course, out of control and trailing smoke and debris. Belatedly,
the Halbret retargets its guns and pour fire on the lead strike vessel.
In moments, the much smaller ship explodes. Yet the damage has been done.
In a series of massive explosions, half the Slicer's rear quarter gets
blown away. The ship begins to break up. Caught between the explosion and
issuing counterbattery fire against the Halbret, the strike team suffers
major damage, losing 2 of its remaining 5 ships. The survivors, outclassed
by the Halbret's guns, hyperjump out of that confrontation. A Panchik ship,
caught in the Slicer's blast wave, crash into the remains of one of the
demolished strike team vessels.

Using swarming hit-and-run tactics, the Empire's overwhelming numerical
fighter complement attacks the Panchik and Yah'Noik capships. Their blasts
are only partly effective as single hits against the hull are quickly healed
by the semi-living organic Lousenite armor. Yet, pounding away unceasingly,
losing fighters to the point defenses all the time, several more of the
Woodlouse ships are eventually destroyed at great cost.

"Sir, our forces in orbit are being overwhelmed!" Very well, fire
all HVIC, continous bombardment, target their large capital ships. *Suddenly
several high velocity idiots begin shooting towards the enemy fleet at
near lightspeed* "Sir, intial bombardment destroyed 2 enemy ships and disabled
three more, unfortunately we took one Ya'noik vessel out as well." Damn,
continue firing, and what of my secret weapon? "We have the weapon you
asked for, and the HVIC is properly modified we can have it ready to fire
in 10-20 minutes sir." Good, when it's ready target their flagship. "Understood
sir."

As more Empire capships are disabled and destroyed among the deeply
engaged forces in orbit, counterbattery fire was ordered against the HVICs.
Then belayed. The Empire capships are caught between a rock (the hvic batteries)
and a hardplace (the defenders in space). They cannot afford to turn their
guns away from the enemy capships. Instead, several fighter wings enter
atmosphere and begin straffing the HVIC bunkers. The canons, designed around
a large-scale offensive, are unprepared and unable to track small, fast
and maneuverable fighters. Sweeping in waves, the fighters pour counterbattery
fire against the HVIC hardpoints.

Retarget Basestar weapons against those fighters!! Send following
on all channels, "Mayday, Mayday HVIC emplacements are under attack, request
immediate assistance, I repeat, request immediate assistance."

The Halbred, notified of the crisis, responds immediately. The Space
Superiority fighers, unmatched in orbital engagements, are distinctively
lackluster in atmosphere. The HB5 heavy fighter/bombers likewise excell
in anti-capship and ground installation attacks. Both types were unsuited
for the required task at hand. Instead, the SSFs break off from engement,
and defend the remaining Quicksilvers now diving towards the HVIC installations.
The Quicksilvers which just a moment ago embroiled in orbital dogfights
are pursued in their dive, only to be intercepted by the SSFs who blow
them off the Quicksilver's tails. Entering hot and fast, the Quicksilvers
arrive at the dispersed HVIC sites with a rolling sonic boom, and immediately
engage the attacking Empire fighters.
