Erisai nodded, then turned to her companion Ael. "You were wishing to see the injered crewmen, were you not?"

"The crewmem we beamed from your other Warbird are mostly on our sister ship, the Enlightenment. We can beam you over there shortly."

Elisia awakened... again. Sitting in a cell in the interdictor's brig, surrounded by beasts who seemed to have the effect of nullifying her nascent powers, she sulked. She was a mentalic. She shuddered in revulsion. Infinity had fought a decade long war against the mentalics back in the Prime universe. She 'remembered', the archived histories of the Mentalic Wars imprinted on every Infinity child in history. The Galaxy's psi talented species all banned together to fight the Infinity hegemony that was threatening to dominate all the worlds in their rationalist, scientfic philosophy. As their roving collecting curiosity settled on the psychic phenomenon, the mentalics rebelled, not wanting their powers enslaved to the Infinity conglomerate. At first, Infinity was losing, their physical technology no match for races that could erase minds and enslave others. As they began to lose, things got drastic. The experiments... the necessary sins that were needed to win the war. Mentalic prisoners, tested, subjected to all manner of scientific probe, at first unobtrusive, but, as the war waged on, invasive. Eventually, all out vivisection of living brains yeilded the answers needed to win the war. The Psi-scrambler. Originally a mentalic projection device, used to filter out the psi talented by testing their response to the known psychic 'channels', the Psi-scrambler sent a torrent of nesensical imagery and thought; static into the minds of anyone with a hint of telepathic ability, quickly turning them into vegetables. Several strategically placed ones settled the war quickly and bloodily. It was the darkest moment of their history, and imprinted on every Infinity child as a reminder of the cost of maintaining purity. Now Elisia was one of the monsters. A mentalic....

Mel 'awakened', strange, since he hadn't remembered being unconscious. He was on a table, fully in his humanoid default form. Despite the fact he was in a different universe, he knew the looks of the laboratory for what it was. Someone was studying him. Looking around, Mel noticed the pathetic monitoring equipment that was reading his energy uptake, his neuronic activity, and on one, a chemical/structural analysis of his morphing medium. He knew he'd been unconsious for a few days, however, his advanced technology seems to have stumped his analyst, who didn't seem anywhere nearby. Rising (curious that he wasn't restrained, he thought), Mel walked around the lab, seeing what they had managed to discover about him in the meanwhile. Completing that, he was distressed, but not worried. Nothing significant was lost. He looked at another monitor, this one focused on the Far Star. Looking at the reports, he definitely got worried. Apparently, the engineers were in the process of dissecting the computer systems and zero point energy matrix, both integral components of the ship. He noticed another monitor that seemed to be analyzing the nanos that maintained the ships functioning. This was worrisome. There were guidelines for situations like this. Total destruction of technology and personel. His stomach turned at the prospect of the deaths he would have to cause now, and that he would now be trapped in this universe forever. After a second, he was composed, and tried walking out the door, where he encountered a significant force field...

Elisia realized she could never go home now. Every Infinitech installation had a Psi Scrambler installed. With her new 'sensitivites', she would immediately be driven mad. Still, that didn't mean she would sit here, inert. While she couldn't go home, Mel could, and someone had to report back. Rising, she tried to think of a plan. She had meditated a lot in the last few days, trying to get a grip on her situation. Elisia knew that Jadesfire could not continue her path of evil. She had to be stopped. However, at the moment, Elisia couldn't do a thing to stop her. She was a spirit, as well as more talented that Elisia at her craft. However, Elisia had been feeling stronger these last few days, as she became accustomed to these accursed, unholy powers. She would bide her time, waiting, gathering strength, quiet. Then, when she was strong, she would strike. Feeling Jadesfire's prescence seek her out, Elisia entered a meditative trance, which kept her mind suppressed so that psi's couldn't read her thoughts. 'She may have my body, but she won't get my mind...' Elisia thought as she descended into oblivion...

OOOWWWW! Mel thought as he picked himself up again. Obviously they had learned a few things about him, he thought, to design a forcefield that effective. Floating up, he was able to see that the forcefield encompassed the entire room, even the high areas. 'So they know I can fly, at any rate...' he thought. Descending, he thought again. Obviously, his recent activity wouldn't go unnoticed for long, so he rummaged around the lab, sending out some nanos to speed the process and inventory what was there. Finally, he gathered together a few pieces of equipment. Mel knew that he didn't stand a chance as long as mentalics had the run of this ship, so he quickly set himself the task of nullifying their influence. The devices were a different technology, but Mel had worked with alien tech before, and soon had it doing what he wanted it to. A few diagnostic tests, and he knew it would be effective. It wasn't like the Psi scramblers from home, but it would throw any mentalic for a light minute into utter shaos long enough to get away. After working quickly for whole minutes, he heard the sound of the door opening. Pocketing his device within his body, Mel turned to see his captor. Captors, actually, as he heard two sets of footsteps. Turning, he saw his former friend, Elisa, or rather, the woman that had stolen her body, and another. Letting them have the first word, Mel waited. 'See, as I told you, Jadesfire, he's fully functional again. Although, I'll admit, I didn't learn as much as I had hoped.' 'It's all right, Mech, ' Jadesfire/Elisia replied. 'I'm sure we'll learn something from their ship that will be of use to you, won't we, android?' Mel seethed, tempted to set off the Scrambler now, but he knew he didn't stand a chance of escape until he could have a means to get past the forcefield. He bided his time...

Mech focused on the android, smiling blandly. Without any obvious controls, the forcefield contracted around Mel to form a bubble, and Mech re-entered the lab, frowning slightly at the evidence of tampering with the equipment. Taking a small container from his belt, Mech opened it, and a chrome spider slid out.....nobody had bothered to remove Jadesfire from the spidernet notion of the EDA....

The young woman who had accompainied Mech onto the Far Star followed, glancing at Jadesfire/Elisia with almost a look of pity and focusing on the android disturbingly...

Three days ago, gnome time, Duker met with the Council of Technology. The gnomes gladly accepted the deal and started working of the Instigator, shield power us increased by 200% and they are currently working on improving the warp drive. Fascinating device that caught the interest of the gnomes. Duker walked down the street with Grand Tech Smithy. Smithy: It is an extremely ingenious weapon, this HIVC, and of course we found ways to improve it. Take a look at what we are going to do. *Smithy pulls out a handheld holographic imager and a image of the improved HVIC pops up* Youre gun only had one muzzle, but you can see here that we gave it six, and increased its range by 50%. Duker: WOW!! That looks like a giant gattling gun! Smithy: {with a tone of annoyance} Yes, we were limited with what we could work with. We should have the new Gattling HVIC built and ready for testing in four days. We also improved you gnome gun to allow ten of us to go through it and increased the time we can work to a half an hour. Duker: Great! I am looking forward to seeing the HVIC and my ship in action, but I have another favor to ask of you. Smithy: Anything, Duker. What do you want? Duker: I need your help in defeating some enemies of mine. Im afraid my ship alone cant do it even with the upgrades. Smithy: We should talk about this at my dwellings. Come by this evening and we shall talk of this favor. I also have something else you might want to know. Good bye, Duker. Duker: Good by, your Techness. *Duker bows and starts to walk to where his ship is being worked on, and he carries a big smile on his face.*
