On July 29th, 2000, I got my Jeep back from the engine shop. I also got my new rims and tires on that day.

the Jeep had approximately 135.7k miles on it when it went into the shop. It was only hitting on 5 out of the 8 cylinders before. The really funny thing is that all 3 of the dead cylendars were on the driver's side of the engine. This made my 360 V8 work like a 4 cylinder + 1. When the guys at Long Motorsports in Summertown, TN, took the motor apart, they said they wished that they had a camera because it was the worst engine that they have ever seen that still ran.

The engine was bored .040" over stock and stock specification pistons were used. 2 of my lifters had grenaded and were replaced. The crankshaft was ground .010" and balanced to ensure engine reliability. The camshaft was replaced with an RV towing cam(specs unrevealable by installers) to increase torque and gas mileage.

The only problem I had with the engine itself came when I tried to change out the "break-in oil." The O-rings on the oil filters kept slipping out everytime we started the engine. Once we realized that it was because of imense oil presure and not faulty filters we determined that something must have made the pressure relief piston stick to full closed. We took out the 3/4" bolt on the side of the oil pump and the spring it retained. We replaced the bolt and ran the engine without the spring in there to try and free up the piston. Slowly but surly the pressure returned to normal. Now that the piston could move again, we cleaned up the spring and bolt and replaced them both. Problem solved...for now....
