Carpati The next days we drove exceedingly through the northern Carparts. The weather was still fine and we tried to leave as much rubber as possible on the road. The main roads are in a fair condition, mostly. Some of the smaller roads have a lot of holes and the local roads in the mountain are often less more than Donkey trails. With the bikes we rode this time it is nearly impossible to cross the mountains abroad the main streets. On the other hand it is possible and allowed to go across the mountains with Enduro or Cross Bike, just using a Compass to orientate.

The fuel distribution is always guarantied, Fuelling Stations are in every town. We always took the plumb free gasoline which has an estimated 92 Octane quality and made never troubles. Inflation is still high in Romania so 1997 Gasoline price was up to 0,50$ per liter. Engine oil is available too, from expensive Shell synthetic to cheap Romanian 10W50 mineral oil. We always preferred the cheapest with VW 500 500 00 quality, which is the oil specification for Turbo Diesel Engine and should be good enough for all bike engines.
