We took
your night camp at the edge of the Donau Delta, surrounded by extremely blood
hungry mosquitos. To pretend an early death, eaten by snakes, we used
successfully AUTAN, an anti Mosquito spray and had a peaceful
night.
We had bought some vegetables from the farmers offering their goods beside the street and were cooking delicious vegetarian meal with cheese, bread and wine. The rumanian wines we bought were mostly simple table wines but with excellent taste and refreshing light. The best beer we bought were Bergen Bere, which is blond Lager Beer (like german Export) or dark stout beer for about 1 $ per liter. At the tourist places they mostly serve Heinecken or Tuborg which is compared with Bergen a "Pissbruehe" to my opinion and costs about 4 $ a liter. Going out to eat is everywhere possible and cheap (about 7$ for us three). Most popular are soups called Ciorba, especially Ciorba de Burta (stomach soup - not erverybodies taste) and meatballs (Mititei), to me it was always not enough potatoes (Extra cartofi va rog!) with the meal. We never had the fortune to get an real good mixed salad, even in the Mc Donald's they do not offer salad.
