ADDING A 4A SUPERCHARGER TO A 2TG Okay...first of all you use the original aircondition bracket, cut in half so only the top two mounting holes remain, and then use 2 long bolts with the appropriate spacers to mount it to the two holes on the blower. this now attaches the blower to the engine but it can still pivot (move up and down) on these two bolts. Make an additional brace that runs from the bottom of the intake manifold to the outside edge of the blower to stop it from rotating around. Okay next you need a crank pulley from a 4age motor, this will give you both the pulley for the notmal v-belt to run the alternatior and water pump, plus a pulley for the ribbed belt for the supercharger. If you bolt this straight onto the crank, the spacing is too short, so use an old 2t pulley and machine the rear stem off (about 20mm if my memory serves me) and use that as a spacer to get the correct belt allignments. For the supercharger, take off the pulley and replace it with an idler pulley from a late model 3SGE (camry/celica). This is flat and as a bonus comes with internal ball bearings to reduce friction. Okay the blower should be mounted now, all you have to do is get the right pluming. For a 2t-g, you use a 3" mandrel bent pipe that goes from a K&N air filter into the blower, then another from the blower to the air intake. For this part I would probably ask a turbo/performance shop as they would know more about this. The supercharger has an internal cluctch, it stop the s/c from putting load on the engine when it is not spinning fast enough to produce boost. The owner just wired up a switch under his dash so if he wanted too he could turn it off. You will also need a blow off valve, becuase if you back off at 6000rpm, which closes the butterfly, becuase the engine is still spinning, the s/c is still producing boost and the pressure build up would blow something up. So the blow off valve will release this pressure into the atmosphere (and make a pwoosh sound when you back off the accelerator). You will need a big BOV! From what I can remember, the exercise cost less than a grand. You can find 4A-GZE (or 1G-GZE, slightly bigger) blowers for around $300 and $350 respectively. You will probably also want/need an intercooler to really get it flying without worrying about it detonating! Just remember that you have to dyno tune the efi system to get the most out of it!! Still awake???? |
