Why Demolition Derby?
I remember years ago when my Dad took me to Seekonk Speedway where they had a 100 car demolition derby. From that day I was hooked. I loved the thought of deliberately wrecking a car. My favorite toy as a child was Clyde's Car Crusher. It was a neat little gadjet that made cars out of tin foil and they could wrecked and dented as if real. I begged and pleaded to attend any derby I could and I vowed, that one day, I would be a driver rather than a watcher. That day came when I was twenty years old and I've been doing it every year since. Being a derbyist has forced me to learn skills that I may not have otherwise. The old adage that what you take apart, you can put back together holds true when building a derby car. The people that I have met through this sport and through the I.D.D.A. have been some of the nicest folks on earth. A good proportion of the drivers and builders generally will bend over backwards to help a fellow driver out. Demolition Derby is truly one of the last 'family' type sports there is today.
