I started learning HTML as a hobby about 2 years ago. I did it the hard way-picked up a book about the size of my Volkswagen and read, read, read. Although I do not consider myself an expert by any means, I have picked it up rather quickly. I use Macromedia Director for the tedious Javascript coding. All of my basic coding I do by hand, using Notepad. This is mainly due to the fact that my computer is rather archaeic-it cannot handle the load of an HTML editor efficiently. In fact, I could probably chisel pages in stone faster than my computer can run the editors. I chose instead to code the old-fashioned way.
All of the graphics used on my pages are original, with the exception of the Neighborhood Guide logo. I picked up creating graphics rather by accident, and found that I seem to have a knack for it as well as a lot of fun. I am lucky that my computer is still able to run graphics software.
Why did I apply to become a Neighborhood Guide? There are several reasons why I became interested in becoming a Neighborhood Guide (NG). First, I consider it rather like investing my time by giving back to the community in which I "live". I want to know who my neighbors are, and make sure that they are the sort of people that I would like to live next to in my *real* neighborhood. Just as I'd hate to live next to someone who spews hate messages, has porn visible for anyone (including the neighborhood children) or any other unsavory characteristic, I also want Fortunecity to be a fun, safe, non-offensive place for me and my entire family to reside on the net.
Also, I am a helpful person by nature. I believe that knowledge should be free for the asking. I relied on so many people when I first started creating web pages, and still ask them questions. I was fortunate to know many friends who have the same hobby as me-anything PC and net related. Not everyone, however knows someone who is just a phone call away who can help them out. Well, now you do, sort of. The only exception is that I am an e-mail away instead. Hopefully, I will be able to answer your question myself. If not, I will find someone who does...
If you have anything you would like to ask me, or have anything to share please e-mail me at [email protected]. I am more than willing to provide assistance with whatever I can, or at least point you in the right direction :)
