FTP Shock

After a long time waiting, Fortune City have announced that FTP is ready to be implemented in the service.

The introduction of FTP will run alongside FileManger as an alternative to those who need the extra power that FTP can deliver. I hope that it will lead to an increase in the quality of the site.

On release a special report will be available from Mark News

Mark Corp Nears Completion

After a few months of busy development at the proposed site of Mark Corp Towrs, a building structure can be seen quite clearly. The plan is to open to the public with only the first two floors constructed and decorated. They will contain the current business of Mark Corp - namely Marks News, Marks Bus Tours (to be renamed Marks Tours) and Marks Publishers as well as house the major offices of these businesses on the top floor (opening soon after).

It is due to open sometime this month, and a launch party will be held at a message board near you soon. Watch the announcements board for developments.

FileManger Blues

Due to serveral bad problems with the File Manager several residents have made outbursts directed at Fortune City officials - namely the ministers and AndySupportDude.

Fortuninan Times asks that all citizens remain calm and don't lose your tempers. They are doing the best that they can.

Political Uprising in FC

Not long after the last election for a mayor, several new groups have sprung up. The most obvious is the FCCP - Fortune City Communist Party.

Citizens are warned that the FCCP are not actually comunist in their views and so do not have anything to do with them. They have made this clear in their postings on the mesage boards this last month.

Other new groups who have sprung up (although not political) are the Fortune City Intelligence Agency. It is not yet known whether these are an official intelligence body and citizens are advised to lock doors at night and keep windows closed to prevent snooping eyes.

First Poll Results Released

The answers given to last months poll - Do UFO's exist has been released by TIC

Read the responses exclusively in Fortunian Times on page 5. All of them! The Illegitimate Comedian has decided that they were all so good they had to be posted. If you can't see yours, it may be because the server went down near the beginning and some were lost, but the majority are there. Warning : the page is a bit large due to the sheer number of responses, but take the time to download. It may be worth getting hold of the archive to read it later, as it will take a long time. See page 1 for details on getting the archive of this issue.

His current poll is based on that tasty bird - the turkey. The URL is on page 8 - sites of the city. Go over and leave your opinion on the subject.

The Fortunian Times

The planned change to FT has been put back a month or two in order to get it ready to do so -basically I forgot this month, but it should be a change for the better!

Fortunian Times in Microsoft horror

As you can see above, Fortunain Times almost used the microsoft windows logo as the colour scheme for the FC News section. This was only averted by a valiant effort by markus the editor after noticing the problem. Microsoft 0, Style and Humour 1

IE v4 - the verdict

To follow on from last months column on this new browser I have one thing to say. Netscape.

The only thing I don't like about IE4 is IE4. Sounds pretty bad eh? Well, Frontpage Express, the HTML graphical editor that comes free with it, is pretty good. Good enough to become my editor of choice after a few corrupted graphics files from Netscape Composer. I haven't had a chance to use IE4 on a network yet, but I've had enough problems on my own machine.

The main problem I had was that it caused a few of my other problems to stop working properly, and I've seen other problems where IE4 has been installed recently. This is not good enough.

The IE active desktop is another attempt from Microsoft to kill Netscape off in the browser wars by integrating the windows environment with the browser. I don't want a bug ridden pile of junk to install itself into every nook and cranny of my hard disk that it can find. I don't want a browser that assumes that I will never want to use anything else.

This may sound a bit one sided. To be fair, the Microsoft browser has a lot of good features, but I haven't found them.

I am greatly annoyed by Microsofts inability to wait for standards to be agreed before trying to define themselves. I can see a divided net - one which is split between diferent standards set by the two big browsers. I know which one will be ahead due to the massive muscle of the Gates empire. Windows 95's monopoly on the small home PC user market (where most will accept the default pre-installed browser asbeing the best) will mean that a lot more people will be using Microsoft products, as they become more and more integrated with the desktop. Unless Netscape comes up with a new strategy, it could very soon disappear. This would be a VERY BAD THING as IHMO, the Navigator browser is by far the best browser to design for

When it comes down to a choice between the IE4 active desktop and the Quake2 compatability test, I know which I would (and did) choose.

The Fortuneteller Horoscope

November 1997

by Madam Luzeile Zybratnpest

November, having passed through the transformative portals that characterized October, gives a lift to the emotional parts of ourselves. The Moon conjuncts the communicative Mercury on the 1st- so focus on making those good connections with people you feel “heart connected” to. The Moon now sextiles the expansive Jupiter on the 3rd favoring casual get togethers and lunch dates.

Fantasize away on the 4th with Mercury and Neptune providing the necessary environment, so the following day the Moon-Sun sextile helps all relationships. The
squaring of the Moon and Sun on the 7th may result in a sense of “blockage” to all those wonderful plans you made for the weekend.

The next week is getting back to all those issues we get caught up with in the daily grind. Mars goes into the house of Capricorn on the 9th, so get focused on some serious business. Put those insights and bright ideas you’ve recently developed into action on the 11th with Mercury sextiling Uranus. Seize the available opportunities on the 12th when the Moon squares Neptune. Strong feelings and power play mark the 13th with the Moon squaring Jupiter and Uranus. Followed by emotional highs or lows as the Sun opposes the Full Moon on the 14th.

The 15th aids successful outcomes to plans with a favorable sextile between Jupiter and Saturn. A Moon-Jupiter trine on the 16th should abound with hope and generosity. Be extra careful on the 17th with Mars is in opposition to the Moon. Fellowship and warm gathering are indicated with the Sun and Moon in a harmonious trine on the 18th.

Tensions, expectations and frustrations are the energies on the 21st
with the Sun squaring the Moon and entering into the house of the
aspiring Sagittarius. Alertness to hidden secrets and motives is called for with the Moon square to Pluto. Objectivity in conflict to the subconscious mind is
indicated with the Moon and Mercury in a square on the 23rd. Emotional
senses, revealing intuitive revelations are the result of the Moon trining Neptune and sextiling the Sun and Pluto on the 24th. Power and strength can be drawn upon on the 27th when Pluto is conjucted by the mighty Sun. Peace, harmony and open willingness to greater things come with the Moon trining Saturn and sextiling Jupiter on Advent Sunday, the 30th. Thanksgivings are for everyone in harmony with the celestial spheres above, and our world below.
