Mir's Modules
A bit about them
The Mir core module is the living quarters for the Russians, the communications centre and the place where they exercise so they don't become too weak. Kvant is the astrophysics module. It provides information for research into the physics of active galaxies, quasars, and neutron stars by measuring electromagnetic spectra and X-ray emissions. The Spektr module was contains equipment for atmospheric and surface studies. The Priroda module was launched in 96. It contains equipment to measure pollution levels.

Kvant 2 is the scientific and airlock module. It provides biotechnology research data, Earth observation photographic equipment, and EVA capabilities. The airlock provides access to the outside of Mir. The Kristall technological module is used for biological studies, and technology development in space. Apparatus include a green house for cultivating plants in micro-gravity.
