This section of the site is directed at giving answers to many
of the questions that I get concerning some of the fundamental of
graphics work.
They aren't meant to be technically perfect and definitive works
on the subject - they are meant to be easy to read, give enough
information to help you get better results and to break through
some of the jargon.
File Formats: An overview
of various formats along with suitability for various uses - also
has an Extension to Package list to help you work out where a file
originated.
Gif vs JPEG: As the 2 most
common file formats for the web this will help you understand when
you should choose Gif or JPEG and what the trade-offs are.
Optimising: How to make
the resulting files as small as possible and ensure that you have
perfect master whilst reducing your visitors waiting time.
Mouse Over: How to incorporate
the roll over effect when hand coding.
Gif 89a: The animated gif
... explains the connection to the other optimisation topics
and shows local palettes, timing, etc.
Masks: Or alphas ... these
are the most invaluable tools in any graphics package. Explanations
of the mask channel, how to smooth them, sources of masks you may
never have considered and object/layer alpha.
