You start off in your room in Pallet Town. You might want to withdraw a POTION from the PC. Go down the stairs and out the door. The lady at the table is your Mom. You can go there later and she'll tell you to take a nap and your POKMON will be healed. The building next door is your rival's house. The large building below that is Professor Oak's Research Lab. Walk into the tall grass at the top and Professor Oak will tell you that tall grass is dangerous because wild POKMON live there. He will take you to his Research Lab and you can pick from one of three POKMON. You can choose from Charmander, Squirtle, or Bulbasaur. I recommend Squirtle so that you can beat the first Gym Leader easily. Remember, the one you choose determines how hard the game is. Choose Bulbasaur for easy or Charmander for hard. When you leave the building, your rival will challenge you to a battle. If you beat him, your POKMON will grow to level 6. Now, you can enter the tall grass. You may find Pidgey and Rattata. You can't catch them, yet.
Once you're through, you will be in Viridian City. Go into the POKMON Center if you need to heal your POKMON. Nearby, there is a POKMART. When you get in, the clerk will ask you to deliver a package to Professor Oak. Now, you have to go back down to Pallet Town. Talk to Professor Oak in the Research Lab. He will give you a POKDEX. Go back up to Viridian City. Now, you can buy POKBALLS at the POKMART. Go down to some grass. Walk around until you find a POKMON you want. You can catch Pidgey or Rattata here. Go left of Viridian City a little bit, and you will find a small patch of grass. Here, you can find Nidoran M, Nidoran F, and Spearow. You probably need to go to a POKMON Center now. Go up and you will come to a building. Exit through the back door and you will be in Viridian Forest. There will be other trainers here that may want to battle you. They only have bug POKMON, so they should be easy to beat. You can catch Weedle, Kakuna, and there evolved forms. If you're lucky, you'll find a Pikachu. Viridian Forest is supposed to be a maze, but it's really easy. Just go right and up. From there, just keep going up, left, and down.
Once you get out, you should be in Pewter City. You might want to get your POKMON to at least level 10. There is a Gym there where you will challenge Brock, one of the Gym Leaders. He uses rock POKMON. He's in the back of the building. If you chose Squirtle at the beginning, he shouldn't be a problem. Once you beat him, exit the Gym and head east. You will find some people there that you have to battle to get through. Once you pass them, You will see a POKMON Center and Mt. Moon.
Make your way to the upper-left-hand corner of this level. You will be in a large area. There is a ladder near the top that you can climb down. Follow this path until you reach another ladder. This next area is easy enough, so make your way to the end. There is a person there that you will have to fight. Once you win, choose from either the Dome Fossil or the Helix Fossil. I recommend the Helix Fossil. Exit Mt. Moon and go east to Cerulean City.
Once you get there, go up to Nugget Bridge. First, you will meet your rival. He will challenge you. When you beat him, continue going up and beat the six people on the bridge. You will get a NUGGET, which you can sell for $5000. Go left and walk around and catch a Bellsprout or an Oddish, depending on which version you have. You can also find Abra here. He's hard to catch, but he can TELEPORT to the last POKMON Center you went to. Go right and beat as many as the trainers as you need. When you reach the end, there is a cottage there. Inside is Bill, a rare POKMON collector. Talk to the creature inside. It's Bill, but he messed up an experiment and got combined with a POKMON. Activate the Cell Separation System in the PC. Bill will come out. Talk to him and he will give you the S.S. Anne ticket. Go down now and follow the path. There is another Gym. Misty is the second trainer. She is at the top. Misty uses water POKMON. Use a Pikachu (if you have one) and a plant POKMON (like Bellsprout, Oddish, or Bulbasaur).
Once you beat her, go into the house that was robbed. Exit through the back door and you will find someone from Team Rocket. Beat him and he will give you a TM. Continue going and follow the path down. There is a Daycare Center here that will raise your POKMON. Near it, you will find a building. Enter it and go down the stairs. Follow the tunnel and go up another stairs. Leave this building and you will now be in a field. Go down and you will be in Vermilion City. Get OLD ROD from the Fishing Guru and Bike Voucher from the President of the POKMON Fan Club. Enter the S.S. Anne and find your rival. Beat him and enter the stairs you just saw him leave. Talk to the captain and he will give you HM01, CUT. Teach it to one of your POKMON. Leave the ship and it will sail off without you. Go up to Digletts Cave. Once you get through, go inside the house and trade your Abra (if you have one) for a Mr. Mime. Leave that building and go down a little and CUT the tree. Enter the next building and get HM05, FLASH. Teach it to one of your POKMON. Go back to Vermillion City. Go right. You will find a large area with grass. Drowzee can be found here. Go to the bottom-left-hand corner of Vermilion City and there will be a Gym. Use CUT to get to it. You have to unlock the two locks to get to him. They are always next to each other and the lock changes every time. After you beat him, go back up and through the underground tunnel. Go up a little and then right a little. CUT down the tree. Make your way through, past the other trainers, to Rock Tunnel.
When you get in, use FLASH. Rock Tunnel is easier than it looks. Just walk around people and large rocks. When you get out, you will be in Lavender Town. There's not much you can do here, yet. For now, follow the path left and you will come to another underground tunnel.
When you get out, you will be near Celadon City. Enter Celadon City. Enter one of the buildings through the back door and follow the stairs up to the top floor. On the desk, you will find Eevee. Exit the building. Go to the bottom of Celadon City and cut down the tree. Follow the path to find another Gym. Beat Erika and go near the center of this city and go left. You will find a tree. Cut the tree and enter the building. Go through the other end and into the house. Talk to the girl and she will give you HM02, FLY. Teach it to one of your POKMON. Make your way back to Celadon City and get COIN CASE from a man in the restaurant. Now, go to the Rocket Game Corner. Talk to the man in front of the poster. Beat him and turn on the secret switch. Go right and enter the stairs that appeared. Go to the stairs next to you. Go down and left. Walk above the guy and into the stairs. Go left and get to the maze. Go to the middle and down. Go to the left arrow tile and down to a right arrow tile. Move left two spaces and down three spaces. Then go left three spaces and down two spaces. Go right and you will end up at the last arrow tile. Go left two spaces and down. Go right and up to another stairs going down. On this floor, go up and right. Beat the man there and then talk to him. He will drop the LIFT KEY. Take it and go up the stairs, then to the other stairs going up. Here, you'll find another maze. Enter one of the two arrow tiles. It doesn't matter which one. Go right one, down four, right one, down one, then right to enter another arrow tile. Then right, left, right, down and enter the top arrow tile. Go left one, and down to another arrow tile. Go right and ignore the stairs. Enter the elevator and go to the fourth floor. Talk to the two guys and beat them. The door will open and you have to beat Giovanni. Pick up the SILPH SCOPE and go back to Lavender Town.
Enter POKMON Tower and get to the top floor, it's easy enough. Talk to Mr. Fuji and he will take you to his house. Talk to him again at his house and he will give you a POKFLUTE. Go down and walk on the bridge until you come to Snorlax, he's sleeping. Go to your ITEMS and use your POKFLUTE. Snorlax will wake up. Catch him, he has high HP and can restore his health with REST. If you don't catch him, don't worry, there's another one left of Celadon City, near the tree you CUT to get FLY.
Go to Celadon City and go all the way to the left. Get past Snorlax and go down Cycling Road. When you get to the end, go east to Fuchsia City. There is a gym next to the POKMON Center. The Koga uses Poison and Sleep techniques a lot, so bring some healing stuff with you. He is surrounded by invisible walls. To know where the walls are, just look for spaces in them. Go to the Safari Zone, at the top of Fuchsia City, and make your way to the Secret House, in the upper-left-hand corner. Talk to the man there and he will give you HM03, SURF. Near the Secret House, you'll find Gold Teeth. Take these and give them to the Warden who will give you HM04, STRENGTH. FLY to Celadon City and buy a drink from the top floor of the Department Store. Go east of Celadon and enter the building there. When you walk through, you will give the guard your drink, and he will let you through.
Now that you have SURF and FLY, FLY to Cerulean City. Go through the house where the people were robbed. Go right a little, down a little, and left. CUT the tree and go all the way to the right, passed the trainers. SURF in this river and follow it until you come to the Power Plant. In a small room, you will find Zapdos, one of the three Legendary Birds. FLY to Fuchsia City and SURF down and left. You'll end up at the SeaFoam Islands. Get in and push boulders into holes with STRENGTH. Eventually, you'll find Articuno, another one of the Legendary Birds. You need SURF to get to him.
You will now be in Saffron City. There are two Gyms here. In one, you will get either Hitmonchan or Hitmonlee. The other one is blocked for now. Enter the Silph Co. Building and use the elevator to go to the fifth floor. Go left and down. Enter the teleporter and you will be on another floor. Step away from the teleporter and enter it again. Go down and beat the man there. Go right and you will find the Card Key. Go down to the third floor and go left and down. Beat the guy. Use the Card Key to open the door to a room. Enter the teleporter and you will be in another room. Walk to the left and you will beat your rival. Talk to the man there after you win and he will give you a Lapras. Enter the other teleporter, go down, and beat the guy. Open the door with the Card Key and when you walk in, you will have to beat Giovanni. After that, talk to the man in the room. He is the president of Silph Co. He will give you a Master ball. Save it! You might want to deposit it in your PC so that you don't accidentally toss or use it. Team Rocket will be gone in this town, so now you can enter the buildings. Go inside the Gym. To get to Sabrina, you have to use the teleporter. Enter the first one you see, next to the statue and the man. Then go left, down, left, and left again. In this room, you will find Sabrina. Beat her and then fly to Pallet Town.
SURF south of Pallet Town until you come to Cinnabar Island. There is a large building in the lower-left-hand corner. In the last room, there is a man there who will bring POKMON from fossils back to life. If you chose the Helix Fossil, you get Omanyte. If you chose the Dome Fossil, you get Kabuto. To get Aerodactyl, FLY to Pewter City and enter the back of the Museum. Use Cut. There is a man there who gives you Old Amber. There is a Gym here, but it's locked. Enter the building left of it and walk straight to the stairs. Go left and up to a room with two beds and a stairs. Go up the stairs. Walk left and down to a statue. Go to the front of the statue and turn on a secret switch. You should see one door opened and another closed. Enter the door that opened, the one on the bottom. Go over a couple spaces and jump off a ledge two spaces wide and two spaces tall. Go down and left to find a stairs going down. Enter it. Go up, left, and enter the room with a man, a book on a desk, and a statue. Turn on the secret switch on the statue. Go through the door on your left. Move up and right. Enter the hall that was locked. Go into the room with three beds and a statue. Turn on the secret switch at the statue. Leave the room and go to the far left. Then, go down to a room with four plants in it. Pick up the SECRET KEY. Undo everything you've done up until the part when you jumped off the ledge. When you get to the stairs after the ledge, go up, right, and down. Jump off this other ledge at the corner and you can now enter the Gym. All you have to do is talk to the people in the Gym and fight them. When you win, they will open a door to another room. Eventually, you'll meet Blaine. Once you beat him, you should now have seven badges.
The eighth badge is in Viridian City, the one that was locked before. Fly to Viridian City and enter the Gym. Walk past to right arrow tiles, two checkered tiles and three guys standing. Go left and up. Beat the guy here and then go past him. Go up and beat the guy there. Go back down past the three guys standing. Go near the entrance and go right to an arrow tile pointing up. You should now be in the upper- right-hand corner of the gym. Go to the left arrow tile. Walk past the guy you beat before. The Gym Leader is in the upper-left-hand corner of the Gym. He is Giovanni. He uses ground POKMON, so use water. After you beat him, you are now ready to go to the POKMON League.
Go to the left of Viridian City and you will meet your rival. After you beat him, enter the huge building. Make sure you have POKMON that know STRENGTH and SURF. Go past the guards. They'll let you through now because you have the badges. When you get passed the eighth guard, enter the door and you will be in Victory Road. Here, you must keep pushing boulders onto switches (the white circles) to get pass the white blocks that stop you. Find Moltres, one of the Legendary Birds. He's in the corner of a small room. Eventually, you will come to a boulder next to a hole. Use STRENGTH and push the boulder into the hole. Fall into the hole and push the boulder all the way to the left onto a switch. Go on the ladder that was blocked and follow the path until you get out. Go up and pass the statues and enter the building. Be prepared to defeat the Elite Four. After you beat them, you have to defeat your rival because he beat them before you. After you win, you and your POKMON will be entered in the Hall of Fame.
Then, there are the credits. When it says "THE END," wait a little bit and press A. Go to "CONTINUE," and you will be in Pallet Town. FLY to Cerulean City, go past Nugget Bridge, and SURF in the river. Make sure you have your Master ball with you. Follow the river until you come to a cave. Before, there was a guard there that wouldnt let you in. Only the person who beat the Elite Four was allowed in. Now that you beat them and the guard is gone, you can enter. Go on the little L-shaped platform, but don't go down the ladder. SURF into the water. Go all the way around, ignoring the other ladders and platforms. At the end, you'll find a platform with two rock formations and a ladder. Ignore the ladder and go down into the corridor. Follow it until you come into a ladder. Go up two and right nine. Go down and left. Go up, right a little, then up again. Follow the path till you come to a ladder. Follow this path until you see another ladder - enter it. Get out of this platform and go left. Follow this path. You will have to use SURF a few times. At the end of the path, Mewtwo is on a small platform. Catch him with your Master ball.
