82nd Airborne
Division
Public Affairs
Office
Fort Bragg, North Carolina
The 82nd
Airborne Division is a world unto itself... As a first assignment
in the Army goes, it doesn't get any better than this.
This
is the "real" Army... everything else has been a breeze.
I arrived
at the "All American" Division in December 1983.
Cross-training
as a print journalist, I worked mainly to support the post newspaper, "The
Paraglide". My mentor was Sergeant Major (Ret.) Wilson D. Goldie,
bar-none, the best Non-Commisioned Officer in the Army.
Some
of the other "stand-out" leaders were now-Colonel, then-Major
Barry Willey... now Sergeant First Class, then Specialist Douglas Ide...
soon-to-be-Teacher, still my best friend, then Sergeant Ken
Hudson.
Here's
the folks I remember well. Help me out if you know their current whereabouts.

During
my time at Division PAO, I traveled to Honduras, Panama and Turkey as well
as training areas throughout the USA. Fort Bragg is high-speed, low drag...
 You
get to explore your self imposed limitation on your physical abilities...
and in the end you find the mind is always stronger...
If
you push yourself to exceed and excel it becomes a way of life.
