The school motto exhorts its students to be "Steadfast". And steadfast in their pursuits, the students have come out tops with thier science projects and participation in lantern making festivals. To instil a greater awareness of the rich traditions of the Chinese, the school celebrates the Lantern Festival.
Established in 1885 by Mr Gan Eng Seng in shophouses in Telok Ayer. Gan Eng Seng School was the first school at that time to be founded by Chinese to teach Chinese as well as English. Through its years, its motto "Onward" has seen the school through many changes even while constantly growing. In 1983, the school's students participated in the South East Asia Games opening.

AJC began functioning in 1984 under the principalship of Mr Lee Fong Seng and was officially opened on 20 July 1985. As its motto AJC adopted "Non Mihi Solum" meaning "Not for myself alone", underlying the need for the students to remember his/her debt to society and family. The college crest is dominated by a yellow flame, shaped like a stylised. A symbolising the youthful aspirations and vitality of its students.
NTU was established in 1991. It has its origin in the former Nanyang Technological Institute (NTI) which was set up in August 1981 with the primary function of providing facilities for tertiary education and research in various branches of engineering and technology. At that time, NTI was to be part of the National University of Singapore (NUS) in all academic matters , while in all other respects it would be independent.
NTI admitted its first batch of 582 engineering students in July 1982. As the Institute developed, other courses other than engineering were offered over the years -- Accountancy (1987), Business, Computer Engineering (1989), Materials Engineering, Arts with Diploma in Education, Science with Diploma in Education (1991) and Communciation Studies (1993).
On 1 July 1991, NTI was reconstituted incorporating the National Institute of Education (NIE). It was renamed Nanyang Technological University and empowered to award its own degrees. It is a comprehensive University designed to meet the manpower needs of the nation and the region. Degrees awarded by NTU are recognised by the relevant professional institutions both locally and internationally. NTU aims at becoming a university with general academic excellence and niches of international eminence. Its mission is to train leaders, professionals and entrepreneurs for Singapore and the region and to advance research and development in both the academic and professional disciplines.
The Marketing Institute of Singapore (MIS), a not-for-profit organization, is the national professional body for sales and marketing practitioners. Founded in 1973, MIS has a membership of about 4,500, which is still growing steadily.Mission
The mission of MIS is "to promote marketing as a philosophy of business, to enhance the professional standards of marketing practices, and to be the leading centre for marketing in the Asia-Pacific region".
