Kerala which is known as God's own country is a flourishing experience for anybody. The word Kerala means 'the   land of coconuts' and everywhere in the state you see acres of coconut groves. Scintillating greenery combined with beautiful backwaters and beaches made Kerala a tourist attraction. Kerala has an edge  above other states in terms of literacy,birth rate, death rate and social reforms. Under the States Re-organization Act of 1956, Travancore-Cochin State and Malabar were united to form the State of Kerala on 1st November, 1956. The first  government headed by E.M.S Nambudirippad revolutionized the developments by introducing land reforms. Kerala has an area of 15,005 sq. miles or 38,863 sq. kms. and is divided into 14 districts. The capital is Thiruvanandapuram and the language is Malayalam. It represents only 1.18% of the total area of india but 3.43% of the total population of the country is in Kerala. The literacy rate is 100 % and basic educational facilities offered is considered to be the best in the country. The scenic Thekkady Wild Life Sanctuary is a popular vacation destination for nature lovers. Main News Papers are DeshabhimaniKeralakaumudi , Deepika , Malayalamanorama  , Mathrubhumi  and Mangalam .

SceneryThe first fully literate Municipal Town (Kottyam-1989), and the district(Ernakulam-1990) in India are in Kerala. On Dec.11, 1995, Ernakulam also became India’s first ‘Bachat’ (savings) district. In 1991, Kerala became the first fully literate state in India. Literacy among adults: 90.59% Infant mortality rate in Kerala is 16 per 1000 live births. Life expectancy is 71.3. It is the first place where Communists came to power through the ballot box and the land where the great philosophical tradition of "Advaita" or Pantheism of the extreme was born.
