This
classic Italian Ristorante owned by Marcello and Margaret
Giannini
first opened in June 1993.
Having
arrived on these shores from Lucca, Tuscany in 1972, Marcello
began his working life as a humble dish washer. Following an
inauspicious start, his career soon blossomed as he began his rise
to restaurant manager. After more than 20 years that had seen him
work in every aspect of the business, he truly understands what
makes a restaurant special. The surroundings, atmosphere, the food
and wine and wonderful welcome afforded to all at front of house
at Marcello's all carry the hallmark of someone who knows the true
meaning of service.
The restaurant
itself is well designed with a large bar complete with
comfortable seating area where you may enjoy an aperitif or
bruschetta before being seating or maybe a brandy or coffee
after your meal. Then passing on through the reception area with
its spiral staircase and grand piano, you descend into the
dining room itself. Here you can sit back, relax and soak up the
atmosphere; the open kitchen adds perfectly to the congenial
ambience and allows Marcello's chef's to
showcase their undoubted skills.
The food is
beautifully presented and prepared using only the best most fresh
ingredients direct from the market to your table. The menu has
many highlights but the fish dishes in particular are quite
stunning. The blackboard menu offers daily fish dishes from market
opportunities such as Rabbit fish, Strawberry Grouper, Cucomber
fish and Sabre fish, all cooked with flair and panache. Local
dishes from Lucca also feature prominently on the menu, old
favourites include Farro, Garmugia soup, Calamari Livornese and
Ribollita. Vegetarians also have good selections to choose from
and Marcello's policy of running an open kitchen allows you to
discuss any requirements directly with the chef who will endeavour
to meet your needs.
The wine board also
changes daily and shows honourable Italian bias; select from
Brunello, Chianti, Montecarlo from Lucca or maybe Tanca sa
Contissa, Sicilian Syrah and other classics from Marcello's vastly
stocked cellar.
Marcello's
Ristorante offers the very best in Italian food in an atmosphere
so friendly and relaxed you'll want to return time and again.
Marcello's is only a
short taxi ride from Manchester Airport and 15 minutes by tram
from Manchester City Centre.
