EXAMPLES OF PRAYER
Psalm 23 ~ Matthew 6:5-18 ~ John 17:1-26
PREPARATION FOR PRAYER
Now that we have seen what the Bible teaches us about prayer, how do we go about applying these truths to our own individual
lives? Let's begin with:
Persistence: Because of our busy daily schedules, the only way we can ever really accomplish anything is by becoming persistent. Whether
it's doing housework, cooking a meal or getting to an appointment on time. Persistence is the key. Prayer is no exception. When we make an appointment with God, we must be persistent in keeping that appointment.
Purpose:
Our purpose for prayer has been studied thoroughly. Even so, we must come to the throne of God with a purpose……that being to communicate with Him. To talk and to "hear" what is on our heart and His.
Preparation:
Here is where the rubber hits the road! We must not only prepare our hearts for prayer, but we must prepare a special place. It
doesn't have to be fancy, just a special place where we can promise to meet with God "for sure". A specific place and a specific time. Then we must guard that time as precious and not allow "things" to interrupt
us. Have a pencil and paper (and of course a Bible) on hand. Sometimes a thought comes to mind and we need to write it down; or something pops into our head (an errand, phone call, etc.); we can jot it down for "later".
Use the A-C-T-S method….this has always been the
easiest for me because it is easy to remember.
A - adoration
C - confession
T- thanksgiving
S - supplication
